Default To those of you with perforated leather jackets

Do they really breath that well? I ride in deap south GA, and it gets hot as FU^&! I just dont want to waste my money on a leather jacket if I wont wear it.

I already have the Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket, and like it, but I would like some better protection than just mesh whie riding around with all the Morons in GA.

How do they compare to mesh jackets?

My Dainese Shard is perforated. Without the liner, it breathes very well.

We don't have your humidity here in SoCal, but it does get hot in the summer.

There's no comparison. Leather jackets protects much better than mesh.

If it gets too hot, try soaking a t-shirt in cold water, and wear that under your leather jacket. It'll help keep you cool, especially while you're on the move.

Or.. get a perforated leather jacket.

My alpinestars Sm-X vents really well, a little to well in the winter even with the lining

I should have put in "perforated" into my post. Perf'd or non-perf'd, the wet t-shirt trick works wonders.

I have the Alter Ego, as well as an ICON Pursuit leather jacket, which is fully perforated.

Want to know something funny? I wear the JR year-round, and I think I've worn the Pursuit once. The Alter Ego works better in the winter, and better in the summer. It protects well, too.

Some makers such as Helimot make cool shirts to wear under your leathers... they are shirts that have cooling channels in them. I am sure you will be feeling the humidity more than the heat

Yeah I definatly ment humidity as the major problem. It gets so bad that you instantly sweat going outside with justa t-shirt...and I am not that dumb.

Hmm, well like I said I like the alter ego, but mesh just scares me. It really doesnt seem like it will protect me. But in the winter, its warm as hell.

So anyone with perforated ever compare with a mesh?

Joe Rocket has this new liner.... http://www.newenough.com/joe_r...e.htm
I wonder if it would work with a perforated leather jacket?????

Thanks for all the replies.

I too have an alter ego and have a Shift 2 piece suit (the jacket is perforated) being delivered in 6 days. I'll give you a comparo once I get it in.

In all honesty, I think the alter ego will give you some pretty damn good protection. I feel like a football player when I get out with that thing on - it seems pretty damn indestructable. Yes, sliding at 80 MPH on the highway would royally f it up, but you know what I'm saying.

They say leather will be a thing of the past in the next decade when it comes to top quality motorcycle protection...thats what I hear anyway.

Yeah I guess your right. But let me know when you get the suit. I am really curious. I to do feel real protected around the shoulder area with the alter ego, but it just seams that in any kind of slide it would tear up with the textile removed.

You have to remember, people in south GA are stupid. I need to be prepared for anything.

(I am not from GA, I am just stuck here in the Military.)

True, but the next day it was probebly in the 50's. We get a day or two here and there that are cold, but I just drive those days or use the alter ego and a sweat shirt.

I had a buddy who crashed in a Joe Rocket Pheonix jacket and it held up fine. It only works once, but it did work well. He went out and picked another one up right after it happened.

How fast was he going? Did he slide or roll. Alot of different materials will hold up in a roll.

YES. Did you read my post?

I've kept quiet about this publicly, but I went down hard in my Alter Ego and you can barely tell. I will use it again.

How fast were you going? Did you high or low side? Go over the bars? Slide or roll? All these factors come into play.

Over the bars, going fast enough to break bones.

Did you have the textile removed from the outside?
