Default tranny differential shim

I installed OBX limited slip differential into my S1 tranny case. Binding occurred with regular shim = 1.386 mm upon tightening the case bolts. So I angle grinded the differntial cooling fins in the seat and ceiling. Still binding.
So I got out the prussian blue. I lined the remaining portion of the cooling fins and the inner bearing seat. No signs of scraping and the inner bearing (driver side)is completely seated.
Next I installed the housing with no shim to find the total distance between the outer (passenger side) bearing and the housing case. I have (at the most) .61mm clearance. If I subtract .014mm max spec that leaves .596mm. That is not enough room for a shim?? the shim thicknesses start at 1.05mm???
Is there an "alternate" shim system I can use?? Do I need this shim? It sure would be nice to know how to find that missing 1mm needed. Any ideas? Thanks. fobile missile.

If I were you, I would call Gearspeed, they are one of the Honda Tech sponsors and rebuild these tranny's all day long. They are a great source for parts also.

ya know what? I am using 2 new aftermarket differential bearings. I wonder if they are wider than the original bearings?? Could I loose a mm over both bearings? hmmmm... well, I will see if I have one of the old ones... no I don't. haha. could be the problem - the new bearings might be slightly taller?

yes bearings are seated. I am going to get the thinnest thrust shim. Then if not good I will get an OEM bearing and check the hieght.

Bump, I installed an Obx in my 99-00 tranny and had the same issue..

Honda's smallest shim isn't small enough?
