New Harness Time - 5 pt or 6 pt?
As the topics says I am in the process of buying a new harness and my hunch is that I should buy the 6 pt, but just wanted to see what people's opinions are. Please let me hear them! Rumor has it that SCCA will require 6 pt soon, but that is only a rumor.
Ignoring what might/not be required, if you've never used a 6-point harness, correctly installed, you are missing a bet. Simple question - would you rather take a load on the insides of the largest bones and muscles in your body, or in the nards?

Been using a 6 point for two+ years and I'm fan! You can wear the 6P a lot tighter than a 5P without nard discomfort. Be sure to get a harness that offers a "T-bar" for the sub straps, rather than having the sub straps join at a single point at the buckle. The "T-bar" or "D ring" designs helps direct the straps around 'the boys'.
My vote goes for the 7 pt. I used a 5 pt first, then a 6 pt and liked the 6 pt better. The only problem was that I felt like I could lift up in the seat w/ the 6 pt. Now I use a 7 pt and feel very secure. If you were already using a 5 pt, you don't need to add any hardware to install a 7 pt. The only downside I've found to the 7 pt is that it's a little harder to adjust. Once you get it set where you want it though, as long as you're not dual-driving with someone of a significantly different size, you can just leave it alone.

I have a 5 point but the next harness purchase will go to 6 for the safety of it. It stops forward movement of your pelvis sooner so you ride down with the car better in an accident.

Where's the 7th point?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Picture straps for both a 5 point and 6 point.
Most of the major manufacturers (Sparco, Sabelt, etc) pretty much only offer 6 points now. 5s are considered outdated.
