Anyone with a 2006 S2K? Factory stereo sound-good or bad?
Hi guys, I'm a new member to this site. I just ordered my S2k and I should have it around march. I have a question: How does the factory stereo sound? Should I uprade the speakers and head unit? What about a sub? I'm looking more for clarity and rich sound than just a thump. Also, if I replace the head unit, anyone know where I can get the adapter so that I can still use the radio control on the left had side of the cockpit? Thanks for your help.
it isnt that bad in an AP2. It sucks in an AP1 though. But then again you cant even talk on the freeway with the top down on an AP1. You can do it in the AP2. I dunno I like hearing the engine more than the radio personally but I dont think the radio is bad at all.
i have a 2005 s2000 and it doesnt go as loud as my friends 2006 s2000. you can notice the louder output in the 2006 but not too much. If you just get 3 way speakers in an AP1 it would do the trick or upgraded speakers in an AP2 would do fine also.
I have a stock set up with only a sub in the back and i think it sounds great for me. The only drawback is I dont get to control the sub on my deck and the output of the speakers dont go as loud as i want them to but I will install my new speakers soon.
if you want to use the switches by the drivers wheel they have it on s2ki.com gofastlab its called modifry's DCI or something.
good luck with the I.C.E.

AP1 = 2000-2003
AP2 = 2004+
...and personally, i felt that all of the years had horrible stock radios...the AP2 had an XM ready upgraded headunit but still had rather shitty door speakers. Before my wife wrecked her's we replaced the headunit with a Pioneer Premier unit we had and the speakers with 6.5" Alpine Type-R componants and it was a night and day difference. Had to do a little work to get the 6.5 componants in there perfectly but it was worth it in the end...didnt need a sub really in my opinion...but if you were determined to get one, they have alot of different ideas on http://www.s2ki.com

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Nice Bimmer. I have a 2005 325CI that is i'm getting rid off. Test drove the S2k and fell in love will it.
BTW: Did you have to do any cutting on the 6.5 inch door speaker. I'm getting the same type of speakers (alpine type-r) for the s2k.

Thanks...we love our little 325Ci...
I didnt have to cut anything, but you will have to use the little frames that come with it and because im a stickler for details, i actually drimmeled part of the door down where the speaker goes in so i could use some dynomat around the frame itself to prevent rattling and to fill in a small little gap left because the door isnt exactly "flat" when you take the panel off.
Be careful with the clips though...damn things are fragile as hell.
