S2000 Speaker HELP
Replacing the speakers will not increase the volume, stock speakers are about as efficient as you can get, they are designed to work with a very low powered HU, [stock] no where near 50W RMS total.
An aftermarket speaker, [coax] will probably give you better highs, because of the tweeter, [unless your S2000 already has component speakers].
As long as the stock speakers are still good, changing the HU will make a much bigger diff. then changing speakers, not only will it be louder with better bass response, but SQ will be better also.

so why doesn't anyone make a direct stock replacement?
There can't be all that much R&D in oem speakers....isn't there something out there that can be used for a direct replacement?
Changing the HU in the s2000 usually means you lose your dash controls unless you use something like modifry.....and I'd rather just keep everything stock anyway.

There are lots of speakers that are a "direct replacement", however, it is still the HU that supplies the power.
Yes the stock speaker is very basic, but it was "R&D" to work with the stock HU and it's capabilities, in fact it is far more capable then what the stock HU can provide, that's why an aftermarket HU makes them sound so much better then the stock HU does.
Eclipse makes a 6.5" speaker that is a direct replacement... http://www.eclipse-web.com/integrated/se8365.html no mods required if you get the speaker wire adaptors, plug and play.
You can also get standard 6.5" speakers with 2" or less mounting depth, from Pioneer, Infinity, Sony and others.
PS, I would be willing to bet that if you replace the speakers, no matter what kind, you are going to be less then impressed.

Why do you want to replace them? If its because they sound distorted, how did the speakers get damaged?
Are the speakers blown??
For an oem replacement, you want to look for something with a low RMS Wattage.. somewhere in the 2-50 watt range, that way you don't risk under-wattage which is just as bad as overwattage... then yes the sensitivity is also really important...higher it is the more efficient the speaker is...
I have a pair of some Blaupunkts.. hooked up to an alpine-9885.. it can get pretty loud... for 5.25" and they sound pretty good...
also Blaupunkts tend to be priced lower than others, and still be able to sound decent.
Now with the s2k, you should swap out the head unit, with an aftermarket one, but then you do loose remote controls... but you can always buy an adapter kit for it... which they do make.
What i'm afraid of is that if you oem speakers are blown, either you or the past owner put the volume too high, and blew the speakers with distortion.. or the headunit isn't giving enough power, and killed the speaker that way...
I had an old oem headunit from a 1990 accord, in my 95 civic.. it went bad, and killed my passenger side kenwood speaker.... head unit could not deliver enough power to the speaker...
well thats my 2 cents..
