Default 2nd gear grind please help

hey whats up guys well i have a question or more of a lil problem. My second gear grinds all the time i race and it is really getting to me. Most peaple say its the sincro?? hope its spelled correctly. And most people say change tranny oil and clutch fluid and see what happends. The warranty should cover it but i installed comptech racing headers wich are a great difference 170hp to 190hp to the wheels nice but yea that voids it and plus it dosent grind under normal driving it grinds at high rpm and while trying to shift quick. Its an 04 acura rsx type-s so if any one has any suggestions that would be good thanks

just put your stock header on and take it to the dealership, and then put the header back on

Its wearing out the syncros, which will cause problems down the line. Including harsh shifting in cold weather and gear pop outs.

Return it to stock, take it to the dealer and explain the problem. The car was meant to shift at high rpms, tell them about the service bulletin and get it fixed. If they supposedely can't replicate the problem then YOU take the service manager for a ride and show them. From what I have seen some dealerships don't want to recognize the problem while others are eager to help out.

You don't want to fix it down the line when it is out of warranty. Parts alone are around 500 bucks depending on what syncros are also worn out. And the job is a PITA.

Good luck

Good call on you showing them the grinding gears.

Im actually taking a manual transmission class at my local community college, and they use the Acura dealership as the "class-room". From what Ive learned in the class thus far, sounds like your syncros are not working properly. *for those who dont know- syncros work as a "brake" to make shifting smoother, allowing the free-spinning gears to catch at the same speed as the gear in use when shifting*

and since its only happening at high RPMs I'd say the carbon on the syncros is wearing down and not allowing the gear to catch properly when you are shifting.....deffinantly have it looked at/repaired....If you can, just put your stock headers back on and be straightup with the guy. If you try and bullshit him and say "I dont race, what are you talking about?" he'll know you do and treat you like an *** for treating him like an idiot.

Pretty good explaination except i would consider sincros more like clutches instead of breaks because they help engage the gear, much like how a clutch helps the engine engage the tranny... and by much like, im only talking terms wise, the sincros are pretty complicated and are actually pretty cool where a clutch is easy and simple
