Is my D15B a REAL JDM motor or are the letters ground off?
I have a 1994 Honda civic D15B7 SOCH non vtec, I bought a D15B vtec and I kinda think its not a REAL JDM motor. Just wanting to know, How can I tell?
on the block where the engine code is (D15B) right by the B is a stamp of the company I bought the motor from (HMOTORSONLINE.COM) It says D15B and in really small lettering in a circle (HMO)
I boguth from them due to people saying they are legit and due to osakamotorsports not knowing how much shot cost.
Some things that make me belive it is a TRUE JDM motor is:
The O2 sensor wires are 1 wire, apposed to my 4 wire and every other D serise i know of. Secondly, there was a battery wire ran to the driver side, like by the alternator, and no it wasnt the alternator + wire. It's like the battery was re-located to the driver side? or they are that way in Japan?
I mean there are straight Japan chinese( whatever it is) writing on the timing belt cover and on the oil filter.

If the motor says D15B on the block than it should be a real JDM motor. USDM motors always have a # after a letter. Check for a vtec solenoid on the left side of the head near the dizzy, and the valve cover will most likely be black with Vtec on the cover.

Most JDM D15Bs have the black wrinkle valve cover.

ok I KNOW that UDSD D15b7 JDM d15B no letter after, but what im saying is, could the letters be Grinded off and made to LOOK like D15B Re-staped and it's really a d16z6 or something?
And yes, the Vtec sylenoid is by the Dizzy, and YES the valve cover is a texured Black with the spark plugs in the front.
Cuz my spare head I have has the SAME ORIGINAL valve cover from a D16Z6 Honda Del sol.

dude your just tripping why would some one go to the trouble of doing all that for a single vtec? especially hmotors a reputible company. and you could tell if it was grinded cause it wouldnt have that cast look sorta textured. dont trip just swap it allready.
HAHA, I could careless actually, just a debate me and my buddy were having, he thinks its re-stamped and its not JDM. Itll be swapped tommarow.

I wouldn't say they're legitimate per se. I haven't heard of any trouble with them passing one part off as another, but their acquirement of said parts is suspicious to say the least... (Many serial numbers ground off and no one is allowed to see the stock whatsoever).

i have a d15b vtec and it did come with a black valve cover and it does have the hmo under the engine code but mines did not come from hmotorsonline plus my brother had a zc in his 90 si and it had hmo under the motor engine code plus his came from another company too who knows what the letters are for who ..
plus it did come with a 1 wire o2 but that doesnt mean that it came out of a pre obd car neither they had these motors in some of the 92-95 civic's

that's another thing thats different about it, the D15B, the D15B7 has a 4 into 1 4-1 exhaust mannifold, the D15B has a 4-2-1, same with the D16Z6 4-1.

Incorrect, JDM P08 Computers were ran with a 1-wire o2 sensor.

HAHaha
I think you have nothing to worry about.

I think you have nothing to worry about.
well, japanese vehicles are right hand drive, putting the battery on the US drivers side, the one wire o2 is infact the right sensor for the jdm P08 ecu. and all JDM D15b obd0 and obd1 motors have the black valve cover. the D15b 3stage vtec is the obd2 motor which normally has the satin valve cover similar to the D16y8. dont worry, its JDM. also, if you plan to run a P28 unchipped you will have to swap to 4wire o2. if not chip the ecu or run the P08 ecu. also, the P08 is tuned for 91+ octane fuel, so take that into consideration.
so another question I have, D15B7 Civic DX, Manual, Can I use the D15B Vtec Harness, even though uits designed to a 1 wire o2 sensor and just swap out the 4 wire for the 1 wire?
I didnt think I could use the D15B vtec Harness due to it being a 1 wire o2 sensor and me having a 4 wire o2 sensor. sO I swapped the JDM D15B vtec harness out with the harness out of my D15B7 and used that. but I would like to know if I can use the JDM D15B harness.
I would think the ECU is programmed for a 4 wire o2 sensor (stock ecu D15B7) NOT P28 Yet

Use your dx harness and cut the vtec plugs off the D15B harness and run the wires to the ecu. Get either a p28 or p08 ecu. The p28 uses a wire o2 which you will have if you use the dx harness. The p08 works with a 1 wire or 4 wire o2 (this is how I have mine and it works fine). I am not sure how well the motor will run if you use your stock ecu and vtec will definately not work. I would try and get a p28 or p08 soon.
^^^ he is right. use the dx harness or get one from an ex. the right hand drive harness will not work. if you use the p28 you will need a 4 wire o2. if you run the p08 you will need a 1 wire.im not sure about the 4 wire thing on the p08 because i ran a p28. you can drive with your p05 but you wont have vtec and rev limiter will be the same as before.
its still a d15b jdm. some came with lsd. im not sure why your valve cover is satin. my z6 one was not crinkle black... but my d15b was.... not sure. where did you get your motor???
satin valve cover is normally the 3stage vtec version or the obd2 version of the jdm D15b. if you are running an unchipped P28 you probably dont have the lean burn funtion which helps MPG, but does nothing for performance.
Ahhh..maybe that is it. I just got the car this past weekend from a friend. He said that the car is a code showing for the VTEC solenoid but it runs good. It does get less than normal gas mileage..maybe 25-30..which seems odd for a 1.5L . I will get some pics of the motor though for sure and post them up.
