Default Flywheel upgrade

So I've decided to upgrade my stock SIR flywheel to a lighter one.
What kind of weight is a good mix of performance and drivability? (the tegs my daily)
I can get one which is 3.8 kg for relativley cheap. And is it worth getting an ITR one?

i have a ACT 12.5 streetlite flywheel... i did notice quicker revs and its perfect weight for everyday driving. the stock one weighs about 19lbs (weighed it on my scale) . so its a noticable difference

i have a Stage 2 clutch with a 10 pound flywheel and its very nice for driving on the street, the car itself revs faster and feels a bit more powerful to me. My friend has a stage 3 8 pound flywheel and i cant stand it when driving in traffic 10 FTW!

I had a 7 pound flywheel in my teg and it was wonderful. I had it paired up to an ACT HDSS clutch and I had no problems driving it around town

stock flywheel??
what is it you think you're "missing?"
the only thing you'll be missing is throttle response when you put the stock wheel back on. you know flywheels don't add or take away hp or torque, right?

yes i am aware a flywheel wont add or take away hp/tq, however a heavier flywheel makes it more streetable. who knows i may have been happy with a 12 lb flywheel, maybe its just that the 8lb flywheels are too light for my liking. oh well, im goin back to stock and i dont think its a bad idea. i have a act prolite flywheel that has already been resurfaced once. im not sure how many times you can resurface em. but the main reason i am going back to stock is ever since i got that act flywheel resurfaced i went through a clutch in 6 months, then i went to a ebay brand flywheel/ clutch combo, i dont know if it was the clutch or the flywheel but i wasnt happy with it. someone convince me i can get my act resurfaced again, and maybe ill put it back in. my trannys been out for about a week now, just waiting on the new clutch

of course thay add hp to the wheels. lighter flywheel, rods, pistons, knife edge crank, lighter wheels all will add hp to the wheels

Frees up maybe, but not Add.
It's almost like saying weight reduction adds hp.

8lb flywheel == teh best.
You drive it a couple days and it seems like you never put one in.
I got used to it fast anyways, and it Really isn't that much different in drive-ability.

Exedy Cromolly. I absolutely love this flywheel. It is 9.46 LBS, perfect for DD, or racing. You can even launch pretty well with it. The best thing is that it is steel. Aluminum flywheels will resonate differently than steel, and that resonance can cause some pretty bad damage to the motor over time.

I agree, but is that an aluminum or steel flywheel?

Sorry to be such a newbie, but what effect exactly does a really light flywheel have on a DD? I mean, why would it matter how good you are behind the wheel is what I'm asking I geuss

The lighter flywheel will exaggerate the revving up and down of the motor. It is easier to stop the rotation of a lighter weight verses a heavier weight, therefore, it would be easier to stall a car with a lighter flywheel, than the heavier stock one. The revs drop very quickly between shifts, so your shifting technique will need to adapt to the new flywheel. Basically, if you get a new flywheel, it will take a little practice before you will adapt to it.

not much...i drove my friends car, 202whp, 7.5lb fidanza flywheeel, shitty idle from the basemap...

the first time i ever drove his car, didnt stall on account of the flywheel...his shitty idle killed it a couple times...

the same flywheel is on my list for my ls this summer

Aluminum resonates differently than anything else on your rotating assembly, and heats up at a different rate as well.

i've never seen any information showing aluminum flywheels to have a negative effect as opposed to steel/chromoly.

ok i just put my stock 16 lb flywheel back on. let me tell you, I LOVE IT. now i did a number of other things while i had the tranny out. like i put the es motor mount insert in the back mount. got a better clutch this time. but i love the feel, it seems to have alot more inertia, while shifting, shifting fast. this is all i have to say. if you guys drive you car alot for a daily driver i would recommend leaving the stock flywheel in

I concur.
If I had the time and money, I would replace my act hdss/prolite with the stock components.

On second thought... nah, my left calf didn't get big for nothing. VROOOM.
Go with itr flywheel.
