I was wondering if i put type r pistons in my gsr which is being shiped to me right now. Will i be able to use the gsr ecu for a little while or will i have to get it tuned right away because i want to do a mild build. It will be alot cheaper to put the pistons in befor i put the motor in my car but im on a tight budget.

You'll be fine with the OEM ECU. One of my old motors was a straight GSR with ITR pistons, and I used the OEM GSR ECU for break in, and to pass with the state Referree.

Out of curiosity why limit yourself to ITR pistons? There are other options out there for the same price that will be a little better in performance. CTR pistons will bump it up a tad over the ITR pistons...then there is a ton of aftermarket support.
because with CTR/PCT pistons....the compression will be 12.9ish....unless you have some mondo big cams to bleed off some compression and 94+ octane etc..etc...(oversimplified) the window of tuning can be quite small depending on budget and resources.
ITR pistons would be far more livable since the GS-R head has a smaller combustion chamber volume to start.

More than a tad.
Not everyone wants to use aftermarket pistons, when their compression goals can be met with OEM Honda parts.

what about p30 pistons. on a oem 3 layer headgasket, the c-speed calculator says 11.7:1- p30 pistons
11.4:1-jdm itr pistons
12.1:1 ctr pistons
on a gsr motor

allow me to be more accurate
11.6:1 p30
11.36:1 jdm p73
12.04:1 pct
estamated compression with these pistons in a gsr motor, standard bore, 3layer head gasket. by the cspeed calculater.

Refer to my above post ..... 12.9xx:1 for the CTR pistons on a 3layer gasket on a P72.
The C-Speed calculator is incorrect when CTR pistons are used.
P73-00 JDM ITR pistons for their molybdenum coated skirts, and wrist pin oil holes for added lubrication.
Don't be too caught up with static numbers....
