Any details? Hopefully it wasn't anything bad.

I am not gonna say anything because I don't really know anything. There were just a couple bent cars in the Patriot paddock when I left. They did not *look* that bad.

The car was pretty twitchy under braking, literally no grip at all. Gotta work some bugs out in it. Brakes are certainly amazing, glad I got the Hawk HP Pluses.

Yeah, pretty bad. We ended up wadding the Civic today. Backed it into the wall after the finish at better than 60 mph. Tore up the rear, right side, and front right corner. Pretty sure we bent the unibody but haven't had a lot of time to look at it, had to drive home to get the trailer since we drove the car to the event. Good news is we have another tub and we should be able to swap everything over, bad news is the second car doesn't look anywhere near as good as the old one.
We learned an expensive lesson today. When we were walking the course before the event we all said the finish looked kind of shady, but instead of saying something to the event organizer or choosing not to run we took a chance and it caught up with us. Autocross is a safer form of motorsports but you've got to stay within your comfort zone. If you bring something to the attention of the event chair and they don't change it don't be afraid to leave the event without running. It's not worth destroying a car for an autocross, trust me!

Scott I hope you guys are ok, its certainly painful to hear about the incident.
The finish was hairy, I braked about 20 feet before the double cones and downshifted to second otherwise I would have spun too.
You certainly raise a very good point, there were times I wanted to push. But, I knew we had a 7 hr drive home and my brother and I had no intention of calling a wrecker.

Yeah, everybody's ok, driver is getting pretty sore this evening and will probably be worse tomorrow. I can't tell you how glad I am that I switched the stock seat back into the in car place of the light plastic drag seat that we usually autocross in. The stock one is bent up pretty bad after the impact, I shudder to think what would have happened if he had been in that flimsy plastic seat
Yeah that finish was nutty...
I kept braking a little later on each run, the last run there was no way I could make it so i took an extra lap.
Scott sorry about your ride, I tried to find you but you where gone already. If you need any help on Sunday I'll be at the track (at the King Rat rig).
All in all that was the most fun and scared I've been at an auto-x, if you want to call it that...it would've been much better if it wasn't snowing like crazy

So how did you like driving the CRX? By the sounds of the conditions it sounds like you can't really compare it to the accord. Wasn't there around 16'' of snow last week in PA?

Go to Danville, make a right, you can't miss it.

Had our CRX there too... it was a blast. Fortunately we had full tread Azenis on the car. I was really battling with oversteer during the snow, but after tweaking the car a little bit it was handling great. I guess that's what a huge rear sway bar will do to you on a road course.
when i did VIR back at the beginning of December it was pouring snow and sleet.
track was only wet(i heard one of the crew saying track temp was up in the 40's)-the main distraction was the visual one caused by the snow blowing at you.
overall it was kind of cool since you reach traction limits at a lot lower speed than when in the dry.seems easier to learn car control since you're going quite a bit slower.

I was there the second weekend in December. Overnight lows were in the mid twenties, with frost on the ground. It was sunny during the day but chilly (got up to around fifty but not till late afternoon). Lots of folks went off the track in the morning; apparently the cold pavement offered poor grip, and they drove like they had on previous, warmer occasions.
it was on the 5th,a monday when i was there.conditions were bad enough that everybody kept their head on straight, and i don't think there were any offs at all.
kind of disheartening when there's ice sticking to your windshield wipers, making them almost completely ineffective, and sleet hitting you in the face(open face helmet).

Have you checked the RTA bushings? My CRX was pretty "twitchy" under braking... turned out I had one torn RTA bushing and one that was almost torn all the way thru.

Scott,
Sorry about your car. I saw that it was yours, but did not say anything...figured you could tell your tale if you chose to. That is a bummer that the course had an "issue". I worked an autocross on the Patriot course at the Oktoberfest last year. We had the finish about halfway between the pit in and the crossover that came back to the North course connector. Still a fast finish...but plenty of time to get it slowed down.
When I saw your car, I was scratching my head as to just how and what you hit. I understand now... Most of the trouble spots on Patriot are pitfalls for RWD cars. Again, sorry about the car. Good luck on geting the next one together.
