Need Basic Smog Information... Any info would help..
Okay so this is my FIRST time ever having to smog my car since my swap, so i really have no knowledge to this particular subject...
From what i've gathered, in order to PASS smog you go through a Visual & then Mechanical inspection... Correct?
I need more info on these two inspections...
Visual Inspection:
- Car must have a swap same year of chassis or greater?
- I have a DOHC in a SOHC chassis... must it be SOHC in SOHC?
- What else?
Mechanics:
- Motor must be OBD2 if in a OBD2 chassis?
- What else?
Anyways, since i already know im screwed (maybe) heres my dillemma...
95 DOHC LS in a 98 SOHC DX ...95DOHC converted to OBD2...
OK... so do these smog refs actually run the VIN to see the year of the motor?
If they see anything do they have the right to tow my car on the spot / impound it?
Anyone from CA, if you can just tell me the rundown of what goes on i would greatly appreciate it!

You got a problem. The motor has to be same year or newer cant be older (but you knew that already). If you want to legalize your LS this is what youll have to do. Go get a 98-01 LS head/manifold/header and all the nessasary stuff to make it OBD2. If they ask about the block you say its a replacment. I talked to a smog ref about this last time i went to get smogged. He said its a tricky situation but as long as the head is same year or newer you wont have a big problem. Just have to have all the smog stuff for that year.
If you dont want to go through that under the table it has to be.

So today I got a appointment to go to California smog check referee center. I got a 95 ls motor in a 92 civic hb. My car pass every thing except my AEM short ram intake because the C.A.R.B co number was for my DX 1.5 and the Ref told me I needed a 95 acura intrga. 1.8 ls intake . SO I when and buy a other intake and I passed . I got a ticket for intake and exhaust and I passed both. Just be sure you got every thing hook up and the check light is not on and if you got like a air fuel ratio meter take it out the car that will not pass inspection. and remember have a catalytic converter and good shape. Just be sure everythings in your car that is modified have a C.A.R.B co number that the **** that Ref will fail you if you don't have. So go have fun and pray to pass like I did.
