Default LS/VTEC B16 head moved BACK to a B16 block...what about the dowel holes?

Ok, so, i have looked around a fair amount and can't seem to find the answer to this...

A while back i had an LS/VTEC setup...now this was before GE had their dowel kits and all that, so i had to open the dowel holes on the B16 head a bit so it would sit correctly on the LS block. After a year or so, as the LS block had quite a few miles on it, the rings started goin out, so when i found out that my usual shop had a sleeved B16 block with 0 miles, i jumped on it. Since they had done all the work on the car so far, and they built the motor, i let them do the work in this case, too.

Well, they had the car for 3 months tryin to get it to run right. According to them they went through 12 headgaskets before finally gettin it to hold. Then, after they gave it back to me, i blew *1 headgasket* and they charged me $750 to put a new one on. (I'da done the **** myself, but they didn't even mention price till after it was done, so i thought they'd cover it since i only had it a coupla days)

So, my question is this: What could some possible results be of putting a B16 head with LS sized dowel holes on a B16 block with stock (smaller) dowels be? Could that be the cause of the blown headgaskets?

Any help would be rad, guys. I have been lookin around quite a bit and just can't seem to find any info on it since the head doesn't have to be modified anymore.

Thanks!-

bo

why cant you just use the ge dowels upside down. Seems like it would be the same. One large ls size hole and one small b16 hole . Just buy them and flip them over. Also i dont think its just the dowel pins. Are you using studs or stock rods. Also is the head flat.

because i am not using that head anymore..i had been putting together a 00 Si head on the side as a replacement. :-)

I am just trying to figure it out as that shop screwed me over in a few different ways and i am just tryin to figure out if this is one of them. Doesn't seem too right that they say they went though 12 headgaskets before getting 1 to hold, but then they give it back to me and i blow 1, and they say it was my fault and charge me a bullshit $750 to put a new one on.

At the time i was using ARP studs, as well as a cometic MLS HP headgasket, so that aspect was reasonably strong. The SAID they had checked the deck for true, but then again they said a lot of things....

I am planning on it, just need to find out if this could have been the cause of the blown headgasket so i will know exactly where everything stands and what to tell them.

So, effectively, could the dowel holes in the head being too large for the dowels have caused the blown headgasket?

Thanks again for any help guys.
