Default D16y8... help... :)

Hey guys. I'm about to put a deposit on a 97' d16y8 engine at a wrecker, it has 63 thousand kilometres, 175 psi compression test, even across all cylinders...
is that a good reading?
it comes with a distributor and an alternator, so is 850 canadian a fairly good deal?
Thanks...

Well to find one with low mileage, I spent 900 for the complete engine/tranny combo, even though I couldnt use the tranny. That was complete with wiring, ecu, etc and had about 28k miles on it from a 98. I thought i read in another post you said that was about 550 american. I say hell yeah, go for it that is a pretty cheap price.

yeah I went ahead and bought the engine... 4 month warranty!! I pick it up on saturday... still haven't decided whether to use stock computer of convert to OBD-I.... I think OBD-I will be cheaper, because I'd have to use a VTEC controller, and then chip the stock computer because it doesn't rev high enough

No, OBD I will costs more because of the adapter or you will have to rewire alot to go OBD I. For the Vtec control, just get an RPM activated switch or go with a ZDYNE ECU. RPM activated switch will cost you about $35 from summit and can activate vtec at any RPM, a relay to hook it up with will cost maybe $5. Think about it. But doing it the right way would be switching to OBD I but that is also the really hard way. Good luck and don't forget to ground the main engine harness to the thremostat housing.

once again for technine, unless you have done the swap dont offer false information. I HAVE DONE THE COMPLETE SWAP. YOU add 7 whole freaking wires, solder the 5 fuel injector resistor wires together, repin 8 wires for the fuel injectors, and repin the dist plugs.

Ok lets get this straight, extra wire 4 rolls one yellow, one blue, one black, one green 10 bucks total (What I paid). two prong switch-2 dollars. p28 ecu ~100 bucks, converter harness (make one yourself using storminmatts guide) or spend 75-100 on one for blown90hatch's during his groupbuys.

And how much is a vafc again??????? And a zdyne one wire vtec is how much 350?Um yeah that is alot cheaper, and that ecu was designed to run a sohc vtec from the factory right???? Sure you can ghetto rig it with a rpm switch, but it aint gonna run right and give you the full potential if you half *** it like that. 89_Y_49 I am gonna do a writeup tomorrow during the day and take more pics with my digi camera to give you a complete step by step how to. Please don't listen to anyone who has not DONE the swap cause obviously this guy has no clue what so ever. Trust me. My other post and pics speak for themselves.

I am installing my AEM cold air intake tomorrow, cause the crx airbox and intake tube doesnt work with the y8 motor unless you extend the tube about 3 ". Once I get it done, I will hook it up for ya.

what else are you looking for? The p28 rev limiter is at ~7800. That not enough revs for you????? I installed my aem cai today. I am gonna complete the write up on the swap how to for anyone interested tomorrow as I dont have to work tomorrow evening.

ohh that's enough revs for me... I don't think I'll take it over 7200 rpm (redline) anyways...
