I'd be all over this if we wouldn't be at vir that same weekend. Would love to check out the event and maybe take out the ITR on some S05s in the TT. Even have a set of 15x7 wheels for it.
At a track like this even for the experienced, the minimum requirement of only needing a helmet + open passing + an official stop watch could make for a risky combination, however. Hopefully everyone will have a clear head so nobody will get hurt.

I am REALLY surprised that NASA would want to take on the risk/liability of allowing open passing with very little safety gear... have fun with that.

Which run group are they going to be doing the Time Trial in? But then on Sunday they usually combine advanced and instructors. I just hope the TTers don't get the "get the hell out of my way" at all costs attitude. I have some reservations about it. I am signed up to instruct.

And most likely those eligible also have been doing it for a while in a car with at least some safety equipment. I'm sure it will be ok.

I've run at the same time and in TT a few times. Open passing at Road America, in a rental neon, was awesome. No incidents all weekend in any group. People in TT aren't idiots, they know their best chance at a fast lap is a clean lap. They only need one lap.
Even with open passing, most everyone was pointing and waiting for points.
In my experience, the TT guys are just like HPDE3, except a little faster, and more worried about getting a few clean laps than as much track time as possible.

did they run TT at Road Altanta last march? If so I was there and could tell a difference in anyone's on track behavior in the instructors group or when they combined group 3 with group 4 on sunday.

like marcus said, out here we have been doing it for at least 2 years.
I have run TT, and ran with them. Everyone is very respectfull, and at least out here i wouldn't call it "open passing".
And out here in TT starting this year, you can't just sign up for TT you have to be evaluated to run it. Most of the time the number of TT'ers is close to or more then that of the HPDE4'ers, i'd say by the end of this year TT'ers will be in there own run group for all runs.
