NASA & Summit Point - Hyperfest
I'm attempting to determine what this season's racing schedule and a friend mentioned this event to me. I looked at the Hyperfest website and the event looks interesting. So, what is it really like? Is it more about drifting and ricer stuff than racing?
We typically go down to SCCA's labor day double where finding a paddock spot remotely near grid (and out of the deep woods) it just a bit difficult. What's the paddock availability like for this event?
No debate associated with this question please but will this event be a spec tire race for HC? N.E. NASA stated they are not but from what I understand it is up to each region.
Within Honda Challenge's H5 class, how many cars typically show for this event?
Is it a multiple race weekend - one race on Sat & another on Sun.? What are the typical entry fees?
Yeah I know, lots of questions. Thanks!

Most of the non-racing is typically on Jefferson or on Shenandoah, leaving plenty of racing on Main.
There's room in the paddock and overflow areas, just not enough room to do burnouts in a Morgan...
thankfully
As a NASA-MA event, there are no spec tires for 2006.
For H5, expect at least 7 entrants, assuming no attrition due to breakage earlier in the season (I am not necessarily talking about Zephyr).
I believe all of our race weekends are "doubles", one race on Saturday and one on Sunday. Both count toward year-end points.
The entry fee has been a little higher for HypeRfest than for other NASA-MA events. Expect $325 or so.
Hope this helps convince you to come down and join us.

HypeRfest forkin rulezzzzzzzzzzz. It is your typical NASA double sprint weekend with some extra stuff going on to attract the locals and the ricers, you know car show, stupid contests, bikini contest, beer, racing, all kinds of good stuff.
We, H5 would be more then happy to have you come and race with us. We will be running open tires for the whole season.
Hopefully this year I won't be working on my car Friday night. I assure you that I will drive like total crap on Sunday due to a massive hangover from Saturday night's antics.

My God Greg, that avatar not only captures the ugliness of your car, its actually uglier than your car. I simply would not have thought that possible.
Muresan actually just threw up on his keyboard.

You know, instead of coming up with something really snappy and making you look stupid, I'll just let that ugly-*** car do the talkin' for me...
Bitch.

The first HyperFest created a little controversy because all groups were mixed in together, and there were some unusual situations like racers trying to have a conversation about a mechanical problem could barely hear themselves talk because of a bandstand in the middle of the main paddock area.
The lessons were learned very quickly, however, and I think that you'll find it an overall pleasant experience these days.
The racing and HPDE paddock is separate from the other activities, but you could still easily make the trek to the grandstands to watch the drifting and other events.
Although the cultural differences can be interesting, everybody's respectful and open to the experience, and more than a few people who have attended a Hype-R-Fest have been convinced of the efficacy of the HPDE and racing programmes.
This was always the whole point of the exercise, to expose young people to a responsible, fairly safe way to get their speed fixes, an alternative to street racing and gang-ridden urban events that really didn't get them the educations they were after.
It's also one of the few occasions that amateur racers can drive in front of audiences in grandstands. Kids (and their fathers...or grandfathers) will seek you out to comment about the race and ask questions about how you developed, and you end up getting the good feeling that you're actually doing the erstwhile racers a little good, providing intelligent educational responses to their queries and generally guiding them toward a safer and better environment than what they'd experience out on their own.

As mentioned, it's a normal NASA weekend (double sprints+HPDE) on the main track, with other events on the other tracks (SP has three). Drifting, "Hyper Drives" (basically short HPDE sessions for people to get a taste), etc. If your schedule allows, it's a fun event.

O.k. I'm convinced about going to hyperfest. Now the question is will Zephyr, Keith and other H5 drivers make it to the Glen (5/8 & 5/9) and LRP (8/4 & 8/5 - but restricted to 89 dbs)?
Hmm, guess I should first get my car classed in H5 first, but I'm working on that.

- were your under-garments at all damp? eeewwww.
The wife and I went to a HypeRFest in 2003. I wrote up a little article from a specator's perspective that might help to give you an overall feel... though I'm sure logistically things are a little different.

These guys pretty much have covered the H-Fest event correctly. It is a standard NASA weekend as far as the racing goes and the Hyper drives are on the Jeffy Circuit and the Drift competition is after the racing day is over on the main course in the carosel. A bandstand is set up for music and the stupid human stuff and the rice rice challenge is set up behind the main grandstands. There is a car show as well. Good fireworks close the night on Saturday. It is a pretty cool event overall. It is the only event that there is a gate fee for in our region.
