im only 16 years old and i have a 95' dx hatch and im looking to swap it with either a b16 or h22, but ill prolly have a shop do it for me........just wondering if mant mods to the engine are needed to put an h22 or b16 into a hatch......i have a budget now of about 2500.......i know its a stupid question, but just looking for advice since there are few honda lovers in north ohio

 

2500 won't put either engine in your car, especially if you are having a shop do it.

 

if you save about 500 more dollars you can get a b16 and drop it in yourself ... its easy

 

how much would you expect?

 

i dont know how to do that stuff......why would it cost 3000 if the entire engine costs 2100 and 500 for installation?.....do mods need to be made to run a h22 in a hatch

my h22 swap cost between 4k - 4500 putting it in myself. I did use aftermarket clutch/flywheel and a few other things that didn't 'need' to be done. Just buying the essentials, it'll still run at least $3500. a b16 would be cheaper. Search around this board, there are a lot of good write-ups on how to do a swap.

 

are other parts needed besides whats being sold in a "complete changeover" online?

 

go for the b16... h22 takes more work and much harder to put in so it will be more expensive...find someone that will install it for you..i thinkt that shops overcharge you

yeah, motor mounts and axles being the most expensive. A b16 is much more of a direct bolt-in swap and has a lot less hidden costs.

 

how is 2500 not enough money for a motor?.. you can piece one together for like 1500.. buy ecu for 100.. thats 1600.. heads go for 500, blocks 400-500.. tranny another 500-600 depending on tranny.. and yea, putting a motor in would be a good experience for you.. there is enough write ups on em to do.. i'd buy a gsr motor if i were you.. b18c1

 

i got a ls vtec with type R cams and stuff(clutch ect) swapped in for 1800. so if you got 2500 you can do it.

then its possible. depending on which b16 you want. you might go over by like a 1 or 200 for some extras he might need.

as for h22 still possible its going to be a tight fit but its also posibble again you might need to pay more for installation.

IMO i say do the swap yourself not hard at all. i say you and 2 friends can do it in a day.
still need someone to do the wiring though but the most expensive part is putting it in. good luck with your decision

 

exactly which motor would you reccomend?......the gsr is over 2500 just for the changeover on hmotorsonline......the only problem is that i dont have a hoist to remove and install the motor......do you know of any videos online recorded during a swap so i have an idea of wht im getting myself into

okay if you're working with just 2500 just go b16 if you can get extra cash i would get the gsr.

as for the cherry picker i think but im not sure if you can rent them from an auto parts store. as for taking out the motor and installing the new one you take the axels out which im sure you already know how to do. then its just 3 main motor mounts; one in the back and 1 on each side of the motor. and i think 2 or 3 tranny mounts. wires are plug and play you are going to have to pay someone for some wiring for the vtech and the knock sensor. as for videos and manuals do a search on google or on ht.

hmotors is the best place to go. they are fast and the motors are in great condition. you could do a b16 yourself.. its pretty simple. theres lots of info on here on how to do it and other places on the internet
