Timing belt 94 Accord 2.2 engine
Hi i,m changing the timing belts on my son's honda acord Lx. It has the 2.2 4 clylider engine. I was a mechanic by trade. Never worked on this engine before. I have a repair manual. Everything was going great until I went to remove the Lower Harmonic pully bolt. I sprayed it with penatrating oil. Grabbed a old belt rapped a old belt around the out side and tried to remove the bold with my impact gun. it won bugge. I.m trying to remove it counter clock wise, is that correct. Is there any trick to this. I sprayed it with the penatrating oil again and will let it sit uver night. Do you have any sugestions for me. Am I doing some thing wrong.. I did line up all the timing marks befor i did this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. River

Yep they are mighty tight. I use a 1/2" Nitrocat Impact that will back em out. There is a special tool to hold the pulley so that you can use a long breaker bar also. Make sure to lube threads with light oil when re-installing....208ft.lbs. is the torque spec.

no no, I'm not saying you broke the bolt. I'm agreeing with you about the sound it makes when it breaks loose. I'm saying it sounds like the bolt breaks when it breaks loose because of the snap/crack sound it makes.

among others. may be cheaper other places. i got a used OTC one on ebay for about $35, but there aren't many OTC's listed usually. OTC is a good pro brand.
summitracing.com sells them on ebay.

That's the updated version of the one I have and used in my timing belt write-up. I've used it multiple times and have also loaned it out to people to use and it's held up just fine.
Or if you search (google) there are some sites that talk about using pipe fittings....thought about this for the 95 years ago, ended up just buying the tool.
But, if this is in a school setting then, yes let the class work on something real life. That is always the best learning...hands on.
