Default D16Y8 running P28 ecu

Ok I've got some intermittent check engine codes for some stupid reason. If I switch over to a P28 ECU would it run ok. I've heard before that it won't run right but I don't see any reason. The engines are close enough, hell if you can run a Y8 on a Y7 ecu why not. It's in a manual 96 CX with a Y8 harness, engine and ecu from a 98

It'll run, but it'll run like ****. The timing on the Z6 and Y8s is very different.

does the Z6 have more or less timing than the Y8. I'm guessing less, which might be ok since my Y8 has 10.5:1 CR that might be enough to make up for the cam difference.
