ITR DC5 Question
Hi everyone,
i'm looking into buying a second hand DC5 ITR, i finally managed to find one recently priced, low milage (15000 miles), and was born in 2001. However, there was some things i found weird about the car: First was that there was only 5 forward gears on the car. Second is that when sitting idle, i couldn't engage the fifth gear on the car.
Can anyone tell me is these things are normal?
Thanks

the car has to have a 6th gear in order to be an ITR. the non ITR aka the base model has 5 forward gears and 1 reverse gear. the engine code might be k20a3, but since its in ireland, im not 100% sure. you guys might have different engine codes over there.

When did the RSX first appear in North America, I think it was in July 2001, just like here in Japan, which means, YES they did make DC5s in 2001. That bullshit model year thing in the US is just that GARBAGE. The car was built in 2001, just because they call it a 2002, doesn't mean it was built in 2002.

There are '01 Integras. There are no '01 RSXs. The model year not based on when cars are made, which would not make any sense.
He Lives in Ireland, which never had DC5s of any kind. If its a 5 spd. why go through the trouble of importing a non-type r?

Hi everyone,
thanks for everyones advice. Yup, i'm in ireland and we never officially had the ITR or even the integra but have always been in love with the car. I jumped at the chance when i saw the car at a import dealer: http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars...12151. But something felt odd about the car, mainly the way it wouldn't engage fifth when idle and then the only five gears thing.
The thing is, the car has all the usual other bits, like red recaro interior, the badges, the brake kit, alloys etc. Do you think the dealer is trying to pull a fast one?
ah, didn't actually CLICK on his profile... just saw dublin (and thats a city like 45miins away from where i live) so i was wrong
i stand corrected.. dont know much about the acura integras... know more about civics lol
we REALLy gotta get this **** seperated

Just because they call them 02 models, doesn't mean they were not built in 01. He said they weren't built in 01, that is not true. It makes absolute sense that cars are called what they are when they are made to me, the US has this bullshit model year thing, I mean cars coming out in April of one year labeled as a next year car, and people believe they are driving around in the future for 8 months. Just really stupid logic. Here in Japan, cars are based on when they are sold, my friend actually bought an Opel (don't ask why) and it was a year old model, but when it was titled, it was listed as a year newer, which to me also doesn't make alot of sense, but that's how they do it over here. I have just never liked the model year designator, because people can drive around in a car for up to 8 months in the current year and think they have the next years car. If this makes sense to you, then whatever I guess, but to me it is like FOOL's logic.

model year is based on what month the car made in and in what year, anything before june is the current year anything after is the following years model I mean my FG SI was made in 2005 but it is a 06 model
Not here in Japan, and since the original poster was talking about importing a JDM DC5, it is possible to have a 2001 DC5 unlike what another poster said. As I said, the bullshit model year thing is just that, bullshit to me.
Supporting infor for my bro'!
My old DC2 Teg was a '93 model. It was #288 off of the production line in June of '93. Both my Japanese and english titles listed the car as a '93 and not a '94.
If it only has 5 gears and has a K20 it is a Type S.

Hi Everyone,
thanks for everyones advice, basically i wanted to be better informed before going back to the dealer. As i said there was some weird things about the car. When i asked the dealer about the number of gears he said he didn't know. But what really threw me off was when i asked why the fifth gear wouldn't engage in idle, he said it might be a "safety feature"
My best guess on the car is that someone is trying to pull a fast one. As far as i know the standard integra, the IS was first released in japan in 2001 and i'm guessing the type-r version was not released until later. So it looks like someone bolted the type-r bits onto an IS and tried to make a few fast bucks.
Sad part is that some poor soul had bought the car last friday. (Not me)

The iS and R were both released in July of 2001, I know this first hand, because I went to the dealer and salivated over it time and time again, but told myself to wait 2 years, just in case there were any new car bugs to be worked out.
