What year is the car?
You have 2 options IMO:
1.) Sell the car as is to someone looking for a project car
2.) If you really want to fix the tranny, get a replacement tranny. Does the car need a new clutch? If so, get the clutch changed and ask them to swap a working tranny in at the same time. Clutch replacements cost ~$600 including the clutch kit.
Option #2 is tricky because you need to see if the price difference between selling the car as is or selling the car working properly is worth the ~$800 cost to fix the car. If it was an Si or VTEC model, I think the choice would be easier. Since S models aren't in as much demand, I think option 1 is the better choice.
I hope that helps.

I think the best option for him is option #3:
Buy a H22 + Tranny and swap it into your current car. It's the most cost effective way of achieving what you want (a Prelude just like you have now but with a H22 in it)
