car releases black smoke after vtec engages...
As the topic reads, the car dumps a lot of black smoke afte vtec engages on full throttle. Could someone shine some light as to why this is occuring.
is the car stock?
Car could be running rich.... bad oxygen sensor, old sparkplugs/distributor cap + rotor or plug wires....

The car was just recently bought from Japan. It has 120,000 kms on it. I changed the oil to synthetic blend 20-50, spark plugs, oil filter, and gas filter. I was wondering if the rings are going? would that produce black smoke or white smoke?
sounds like your (synthetic) oil is leaking past the rings and burning. change back to dino oil and test it.
black/bluish smoke = burning oil
white smoke = burning water/coolant
black/bluish smoke = burning oil
white smoke = burning water/coolant
somehow i got different idea
blackish smoke = rich
some visible white smoke = lean
thick white smoke with weird smell = burnt engine oil
bluish smoke = worn out piston rings

how can i be too rich with stock injectors, fuel pump, fuel rail, and FPR. All of them are stock. I am told it is black smoke, but when I start up sometimes I see a large puff of white smoke.

When it came from Japan the car didn't have any oil in it. I was always told that when buying cars from Japan always check the oil before you start the car. The dip stick was dry as hell, fortunately there was a gas station near by where I got some Castrol HD 40 ( 40 is all the had ) and poured it in for the time been. Later I tried some Castrol Synthetic Blend (still smoked sometimes), and finally I am using Shell Rumela 15-40w Diesel oil ( someking is gone ).

Diesel oil is a little thick for my taste. Next time you change your oil, go for Mobil 1 0w-40... I have discovered that with this oil, smoking goes away as well. M1 0w-40 is an ACEA A3 rated full synthetic.
Castrol Syntec is not a real synthetic oil, it is just a highly refined dino.

People still believe this?
