Default Question about griding gears...

Im having tranny problems. My 4th gear grinds at high rpm or under heavy acceleration. My reverse is a bitch to get into. Also, my 1st gear just doesnt wana go in sometime, and i have to push it pretty hard to get it to engage. Does this sound like a synchro problem or a clutch/flywheel problem. THanks.

i may be wrong, but is reverse not syncronyzed? Unless my car is completely stoped, it will not go in without grinding. bump for an answer.

reverse is not synchronized in any EG I've ever driven... You'll be lucky to get it in gear with a hard shift when you're rolling forward at some very low speed.

mikeunreal2: just to be clear, is 4th grinding when you shift, or when you are in gear and accelerating? (if the latter: )

On my EG1, 1st gear never really wants to get into gear until the car is hot, and even then not unless the car is going rather slowly. Forcing it works, but isn't something you want to do... If it doesnt want to let you into 1st, you're probably going fast enough for 2nd gear anyway.

Ya it grinds when im shifting into 4th at high rpms or heavy throttle. First is just weird, and it does it when cold and sometimes hot. Im pretty sure i need to rebuild my tranny. Defnitally not a clutch/flywheel problem tho is it??
