Default clutch adjustment: do i need to tighten or loosen my clutch cable?

i just installed a new clutch in my trans. (sprung- 6-puck) and i adjusted the cable to where i thought it was right. But when im driving and try to down shift, gears grind....and sometimes the car dies/stalls when im at a light (i think this has to do with the clutch issue), i dont have any grinds at any other time except when i downshift (and hit happens in every gear)

so do i need to tighten or loosen the cable?

you'll want to try tightening it. pull up on the cable while you tighten it. that should get it nice and snug

Tighten it up.

Turn the nut clockwise; the tranny "arm" should have less and less play. Tighten it to the point where there is just a bit of slack on the arm.

No problem. You'll find that over time, you'll have to tighten it up more and more to keep it working properly. This is because the clutch wears out.
