Default amateur wanting to build all engine

ok, basically, i'm 17 now and i own a 1994 civic hatchback without a motor or tranny. I'm looking into motors currently and want to find a cheap engine to get my job done. i'm looking for either a B16 or a B18 motor that can rev to 9000RPM and still be biting at the opponentswith around 200HP on 93octane. Also, need some ideas on how i can lighten the ride. can u guys point me in the right direction?

and FYI if you desire 200+ whp I would definately reccommend going with an ls block over a b16. You can source an old ls block very cheap. The extra displacement will give you that much more potential.

Look for ls/vtec setups if you want to buid a motor. If you want to just do a swap throw a gsr (or b18c5 if u got the cash) in there and call it quits.

ok, another quick question then: what is so special and different about a v-tec engine? this may sound like a stupid question but i really don't know.

vtec is variable valve timing and electronic control. Regular engines use only one set of cam lobes to run the valves. With vtec there are to different sets of cam lobes. 2 primaries and one secondary. Basically the primaries, which are smaller, are used at low rpm for good low end torque, drivability, and the secondary lobe, the racing lobe you could say, is used for higher rpm for more power. The result, it should give you a better torque curve overall producing good power, without sacrificing drivability and good gas milage, where as if there were no vtec, you could produce the same amount of power, but you would be sacrificing drivability and good gas milage and all that crap.
