Default Sloppy short shifter

I installed a no name brand short shifter in my 1999 civic Sir. The shifter works great, but has extra play side to side while in gear. does anyone know a fix for this problem?? do I need some new bushings?

Not tight enough then. That's what usually solves the problem for me. If the bolt IS all the way tight, the transmission itself could have play in it. And that cannot be fixed. Bushings could help, but they only soldify the stabilizer bar...and I doubt that would solve your problem.

this happened to me a while back with my old shifter. with me, the bolt that connected the shifter to the linkage didn't have enough washers. i bought a skunk2 short shifter since my old one was very cheap (came with my car) and put more washers and it worked fine. don't tighten it down too much or you won't be able to shift or even move the shifter around.

hope this helps
