Default The Intentional Destruction of Laboriously Engineered Artifacts - A Pictorial

Finally got around to dissassembling my LS/VTEC which suffered catastrophic failure about 4 months ago. Been busy with work and putting together another motor, I knew it was broken but now I decided to look at the damage in detail, here's what I found....

here's the debris in the oil pan

you can kinda see all the crap in the pickup screen....

#3 rod and what's left of the bearing....

#3 rod journal with some more bearing material stuck to the crank....

#2 rod - this is what the rest of the bearings looked like, just all scuffed up...

and yes the thread title was plagarized you get ten bonus points if you can tell me where it came from....

not sure yet as to cause of death. I originally suspected a broken oil pump gear but on dissassembly the oil pump is fine. also the main bearings don't look too bad, just scored up from debris in the oil.

this motor was SEIZED - I could barely turn it over with a 4-foot breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt

no it's a piece of the bearing that is melted onto the crank but it's lifted off at the very edge...

here's another pic (#2 and #3 rod journals....)

it was redline 10-30 and it had about 1500 miles on it so I don't think it was the oil...

Wow that looks like a few of the engines we had a couple months back. We also found valvespring bits in the oil pan........that was cool looking. Looks like black gold but for mechanics
