After headgaket, and h20 pump, the car still overheats
Basically, I put the headgasket on backwards by accident and i start the car up, and i dump a gallon of oil on my garage floor. so i tear the head off the bottom end, turn the head gasket around, and then throw it all back together. It starts, and runs ok, but has a very high idle. I take it out for a spin, and after a few minutes, it starts to overheat. it starts to overheat QUICKLY. once that temp gauge started going up, it went up quick. so i checked the coolant after i got back, and it seemed that i was a little low, but i was full when i left. i just figured that it was used to fill up the water jackets. or that it was burning. so, any ideas as to why im overheating? I emptied my coolant, but there was no sign of oil in it.
I guess thats possible, i didn't lossen the screw. is there any way that I was suppost fill the h2o jackets or anything? Ill try filling it back up, by releasing the bleeder screw for the first little bit of coolant. any more ideas?
if your motor has it, it may be located near where the top radiator hose connects to the block.
If you can't find it there, you can try this: jack up the front of the car a little bit, you don't need to get the tires off the ground, but just get the front of the car pointed up from level. then top off your radiator, leave the cap off, and start the motor and let it idle. Keep topping off the radiator as needed (air will be bubbling out). when there is no more bubbles, let the car idle for a few more minutes (or until the fan kicks on) then shut it down and replace the cap. check the overflow, and you should be good to go. Make sure you watch the temp guage while you are doing this tho!
If you are still overheating, you should probably have the thermostat checked.
