Short Throw Shifter question and clutch acting funny
My clutch is acting funny with my D15...Sometimes it will catch RIGHT at the floor and then have a bunch of play after it catches...and sometimes it will catch mid-peddle and have a little bit of play after it catches...any ideas?
Also...what do you think of the ebay short throws? (please do bashing im just surious)
I plan to swap my d15 wuith a B16 this summer...no bashes keep em to yourself

Ebay short throw shifters are good. They're the same as an expensive brand just made in aluminum i believe. Had one in my DA, worked great, just don't slam it hard or it might break.
Thanks man...i honestly was going to go with a b&m stainless one for but i was debating bc i didnt see the point in spending 50 dollars when i can buy one for 15...Ill get a cheapo for now until i do my swap...lets see how it hold up...Thanks again

If you're swapping, no need to spend the extra $ for basically the same thing.

As for the original question about your clutch, it may be your pressure plate or maybe a lack of fluid, have you checked it?? Air bubble in the line, has it been bled? These are a few things that you should have done b4 posting. I bought an APC short shifter on ebay for like $20, I cut it down so that it was just small enough to fit inside my ****. I shift hard and have ran it for over a year no problems.

A.) mileage on the clutch? Stock?
B1.) eBay short shifters suck. They snap. Any shifter that snaps is dangerous and gay.
B2.) if you're swapping from D-to-B, you'll need a B-series shifter for the B-series shift linkage, so don't bother buying one right now. The B&M is the best you can get, and it's cheaper than most of the other inferior products.
C.) A B16 swap is a waste of money. Go B18B and then turbocharge it when you want to go faster.
D.) your clutch slave and master cylinders should be replaced. That would explain the issue you're having with travel and engagement.

Man, a b16 is not a waste of money. A b16'ed civic is fun to drive, and you have the freedom to take the bish all the way up to 8 g's if you want. Way more fun than a stock b18b. Close in price too.
B18b= no VTAk!!

i have a short shifter, its SOLID metal. How the expletive do you snap that? How hard are you skinny ricers pullin a tiny metal stick that pivots over a ball joint?
if you plan on swapping, i'd just wait and when you swap i'd get a skunk2 short shifter. i have one and i love it. i used to have a cheap shifter (came with my car) and it sucked. feels alot better shifting with the skunk2. more positive shifting
OK MYTH BUSTING TIME:
Fact, anything aluminum that isn't purely cosmetic will surely suck. Aluminum shifters will shear, maybe snap, but shearing is the most common. You'll be in the middle of 'joe t!gh7 r@ce' and shift too hard/fast and actually pull your shift ****, whether is a screw in or bolt tight, right off.
Fact, having a short shifter can actually damage your transmission linkage. By having any time of shifter significantly shorter than stock, you may put your shift linkage at risk. Your transmission does have a limit to how fast it can shift and with a short shifter you may be forcing it to go faster than it want to go, in turn you may start bending/warping the shifting fork, or worse, causing major wear and stress to your syncrogear.
Finally if you plan of any other driving that requires 2 hands on the wheel, a short shifter is a huge pain in the *** because it actually becomes farther away from your grasp.
Stick with stock, or if you need to, get something made out of steel.

so with this whole short shifter "breaking transmissions" can you explain to me after 80,000 miles of me having a short shifter why my synchros are still in near perfect condition. i just took the case off my tranny and had my friend whos is a certified transmission mechanic come in and check them out and he said i have many upon many miles left on them. these synchros are stock along with the tranny. and no i dont baby my car there is no reason to its a d16z6. so go ahead and bust that biatch. j\p

friend of mine broke his ebay shifter in 3 pieces at the track (and broke his radio because he punched it when the shifter gave out). He had to get a tow home because it broke so far down there was nothing left to grab.
Cost of a good short shifter the first time < cost of towing car home once.

This doesn't make anything about short shifters false. I have a d16y8 and it comes pretty short from the factory, so I cant imagine how much shorter a short sifter would be, but anything significantly shorter on any car is bad times.

You do realize Honda engines use aluminum right?

Short shifters do not allow you to shift faster.
OEM shifters are usually your best bet. Just upgrade the bushings.
