Default 12:1 compression

is it possible to reach 12:1 compression on a jdm r motor with just a thinner head gasket?

what is the highest compression possible with just a head gasket and who makes it?

With a thinner headgasket + decked block and milled head = yes.

Just a thinner headgasket, no.

thinner headgasket .. no way

i think it will still be hard to get 12 : 1 comp R with milled head.

i think you need CTR pistons to make it around 12:1 and oviously there are many other pistons to choose from

why do you want to go that high anyway? you are just going to get detonation with pump gas and ruin a perfectly good motor. i know i did it, even with a good tune. your best bet is to keep it under 11.8:1. as far as a head gasket I always go with Cometic. http://www.cometic.com

not true at all.... whoever tuned your car probably wasn't a great tuner.

I have been running 12:1 for 2 years now and after tuning with even bigger cams I have no detonation problems.

As for getting there, I just say go with CTR pistons....

I'm running 12.3:1 and 36degrees of ignition timing at WOT on 92 octane with huge cams. With these cams (BC5) I could run 13.5:1 on 92 and be fine. Remember that the larger the overlap on the cam, the more compression is bled off.

It is all about the tune. If you cannot tune ignition timing you will have problems.
