Default '02 Hard top on 2000....?

I did a HT search and everything I found is not helping!

Girlfriend just got a 2000 S2K, the only thing she wants is a hardtop... Called honda with cash in hand and waited three weeks for a return call. Finally local Honda dealership calls back and says that the hard top for 2000-01 is no longer available, only '02 and up He then says you can't put the '02 top on a 2000....

Now I have found in my years of dealing with honda's that most of us know more than the guys in the parts department at the dealership, but I'm an ITR guy, new to the S2K world. So... can anyone else help me with these questions?

What are the differences in the 2000-01 tops, and '02 up hard tops? And, can we buy an '02 hard top and make it work on the 2000?

Thanks in advance to anyone with input

A hardtop will fit on all S2000's, regardless of the MY. Look up hardtopguy on google and search on his site. You'll get all the necessary components needed for the hardtop...including the hardtop*.

*hardtops may not be available during certain times.

the hardtops are the same, its the mounting pieces that are different. if your dealership says they only have 02+, that means they have the mounting equipment for 02+, not an 00-01. They are in my guess trying to make you cough up more to order the parts for the 00-01.

I would try http://www.hardtopguy.com His price with shipping and parts is cheaper than dealerships, at least from what I have seen.

Just looked up hardtopguy.com (thanks for the advice )

Mounting kits do appear to be the only only difference, and in 2000 it seems like there is some kind of difference between S2's with vin# below 5730 and above... interesting

Very helpful, anyone else with input please feel free, I'm an S2K noob!

Honestly the only thing you'll need is the side catchers. my MY00 was above the 5730 mark, so i did not need the extra panels. Most guys i know including myself don't have the defrost wired up. Then again, i have a CF hardtop...

If S2000s had permanent hardtops I would own one.

Yeah, I wish Honda followed in BMW's footsteps (Z4 coupe) and made a coupe version. Lighter and stiffer...yes, please.

I don't like the way s2k's look with a soft top, that's why we're desperate to find a way to get a hardtop and make it work!!

I have a 2004 hardtop on my 2000 model. I got all the part numbers from the dealership and ordered up my own 'kit'.

Mine was the later run VIN for that year so all I needed was the reinforced from catchers, side catchers, brushes, one of the two harnesses... and I think that was it.

Not everyone likes the convertible aspect.

The hardtop adds safety, more protection from outside elements, and helps remove some of the blind spot. Looks f'n sexy too.

I will stay with my soft top though.

A hardtop tends to keep the bad guys out of your stuff. Those seats would really look good in another car. get my drift?
