not nearly as bad as with an integra/civic....... but, yes people are starting to steal them for their seats.........

there was actually a post here a while back and it was an s2k that was pretty stripped down. when i saw the pics i would usually think the seats were stolen...but then they jacked to motor too!

For the most part, S2000's are getting stolen like you won't believe. It's not jsut the seats, shift *****, wheels, etc.
The motors, trans, diff, dash, etc. are getting stolen for other S2000's. THere's a whole new breed of owner to this car now that they can be had for less than $18k on the used market.
The car is no where as rare as the ITR, so the market is going to be larger of current S2K owners; much of which isn't here on H-T.com, and surprisingly isn't on S2Ki.com either.
Many that have had their S2K's stolen just aren't going to 'report' it on websites. I do check certain databases I have access to every so often to see how many final claims have been reported regareding S2K's, among other cars.

Actually yes....they are easy to change out the ECU and drive off. It doesn't take much to unplug the stock ECU and plug in a Spoon, Mugen, Amuse, JDM, EDM, or AEM EMS ecu and then crank the ignition. The car WILL light up. A $1200 Mugen ECU bought from King can easily net a thief a $20k+ car.
There is no immobilizer for those JDM and EDM ecu's.
Fuel cutoff switch will delay the thieves...but with time and covert work, the theif will still get past it.

if a thief wants your car, he/she will get it one way or another. remember, the car can always be towed. i know quite well from when my ITR was stolen and I had pretty much every known theft deterent on the car including low jack, alarm, kill switches, etc..

Very true. They are stolen a LOT here (CA), but not as much as Civics and Integras.

The way I see it, the thieves that are good, already know this bit of information. This held true for the older Integras and Preludes, and holds true for the new TL's, TSX's, RSX's, Accords, etc.
What I'm doing is only informing the owner that has a false sense of security with using only the immobilizer that doesn't know about how easy it is to by-pass them.
In fact, it's even easier to bypass the immobilizer than one would imagine without using a JDM ecu....but I'm not telling that one for sure.

What kind of alarm does the s2k have stock? just your normal beeping horn and flashing lights?
and also, I've heard of some cars with targa or convertable tops that have proximity alarms, so that you can keep the top off while its parked but if someone were to reach inside the car, it would go off. (or if they were to tear through the soft top...) does the s2k have this?

what about a key though?

No key needed without immobilizer. Crank the ignition with a leverage bar and the ignition will break through the tumblers and crank.
