GSR Immobilizer..what was the first year?
Not true OBDII still makes good power.
Yes OBD II still makes good power but in the long run it is going to be a bottle neck. Most people don't chip OBD II's and if they do they charge an arm and a leg. And you can't deny the fact that on the same car, OBD1 will outperform OBD2.

from what i understand there's a unit in the dash the recognizes that the key is in the general area of the ignition. I did a bunch of research when i was looking into a remote starter for my 2000 GSR. There's a little black box that you put one of your extra keys into so the unit in the dash "sees" that there's a chip present and allows the car to be remotely started.
I'm probably wrong but it sounds like it should work

Ok, was this standard on GSR's. cause the key looks like a regular key. I dont see any chips or anything. Like i said I bought the car like an hour ago. Raining outside so havent had a chance to have some fun yet.
thanks for your help.
thanks for your help.
The keys on 2000-2001 GSR's are thick at the top unlike the other ones that look sorta like 2000 and under Civics. Most thieves know how to bypass this so it doesn't really work too well. I hear of type Rs getting stolen 24-7
what immobilizer are you talking about? I'm not sure if I have it on my 97 LS. I have a starter kill on my alarm, but I also have this thing that won't start the car even after you disarm the alarm.
Immobilizer is built into the ecu. In the 2000-2001 GSR's there is a little chip in the key. I don't know how it technically works, but basically, if the ecu sees that the key that is being put into the ignition doesn't have a matching chip, it will not start. That is why you can't go to the local key store and have them make a copy, you must go to the acura dealer for that.
the immobilizer I was talking about was what Stinky tofu was talkin about.. it comes standard on the newer 00-01 GSR's w/ the chip in the factory key and the ECU sensing its presence before letting the car start..if you have one.. you should see a Key Icon in your dash I think it goes from red to green when it senses the Key w/ chip or sumthing.. not sure... its not immobilizer/starter kill on the alarm.. or anything separate where you have to stick a chip/electronic key (other than your ignition key) .. i kno what your talkin about (turbothisLS) w/ the thing that beeps.. my dealer tried to sell me that thing.. it has a separate key/chip along w/ stickin your key in the ignition..

what year did the ITRs start coming with that. A friend of mine has an ITR, 98 I think, and it doesn't have the immobilizer... I think I would DEFINATLY want that in an R... especially with the recent thefts. He got a CompuStar alarm the day after he bought the car to cover this "glitch" in his car.

I'm pretty sure 98+ integras have the chips in the key. Thats what the guy said when I went to get my key copied + alarm installed.

Ok now that you mention it. i was wondering what that flashing key was. I guess thats what i have then. I still think i'll get an alarm though.
Yo whats up GSRacerBoi!
what...? You're selling your GSR? Are you going to transfer all the mods to your new car or just sell em and start new?

I'm pretty sure '99 and below don't have the immobilzer. You can tell by looking at the ignition on the dash. If you go to itrsport.com and look at his interior pictures, you can get a pretty good look at what it looks like, determine for yourself
It wont keep you from getting your car stolen, as its easily bypassed. So don't feel special if you have it, cuz a thief can easily get around it.
