Hoosier AS303s on Type R rims
A few weeks ago I posted regarding putting Hoosiers on Type R rims. I've bought the 225 front, 205 rear combo but my tire guy is having a really tough time getting them on the rim. Some of you mentioned that they were a little tough to mount. Any specific advice as to how to get them on? thanks
the easiest thing to do is to take it to a "race" shop who's dealt with R-compound tires before. I don't think many local tire shops can do a good job of balancing the tires anyway, more-so mount 'em with expertise. Poor (tire shop) guy... can't imagine what it would be like to try to put stiff-walled 225 on a 6" rim.
Yeah, the R compound stiff walled 225 on a 6" rim would certainly be a challenge.
I had my guy mount my 225 Hoosiers on 7"rims and even though he lubed the hell our of 'em he still had some difficulty mountin them. Nothing against his competency, because he is a shop that supports a few racing teams. It is just a difficult tire already to mount where the super stiff sidewalls are concerned.
The Azenis are also a difficult tire to mount. Ask around and find a serious performance tire shop to do the job.
Good luck,
A.

whh3 - post the topic in the "competition" forum. I'm sure there are guys who have hook-ups in your neighborhood (or close). Warren, krshulz, catch 22 should definitely know a few shops in VA, NC, SC, GA area... maybe even in WV.
Enter your ZIP code on the Tire Rack dealer locator website. It will give you the name of local shops in your area that are equipped for mounting tires, and tells which ones have equipment to mount tires on bigger wheels.
