Default Choosing the proper gears

Can someone please explain how to choose the right gears ? . I mean break it down (gearing for dummies) i know some say ls is good for boost or gsr, etc.. but better times can be acheved buy going with diffrent gear combos, i know it has to do with whether or not you have boost, all motor, rpm range, hp, slick size, but i just dont know how to factor those things together. I need help my car made 630hp and weighs 2500lbs and my best was 11.8 @ 127 with a 1.9 60ft. helppppp lol

ps i tried that site that calculate your your garing but im lost.

If you really want get down to the actual numbers, you can calculate the gear ratios to find out the max mph & rpm of that specific gear. And with the data you have collected on your runs at the track, you can find out which direction to go with.
You also have to consider slick spin since that changes the overall result. I'm going to assume you are planning to end the 1/4 mile at end of 4th Gear.
Base your calculations on the slick size you are planning to use also. then choose the gearing around that.

Its not as complicated as it seems and it doesnt have to be a total overhaul of your transmission. You can get in detail and adjust the gears to match your setup, but as you make more power or use diff size turbos, things are going to change and the gearing will be affected again.

To keep it simple. Choose from a B16 or GSR trans. Setup your car around those trans and the slick size.

So how do you build around? do you go to the track and see what gear you end in the 1/4? so lets say that you go into 5th now what do you do? also i don't mind overhauling my tranny I've done it many time except i always just leave stock gearing.

My advice would be to pick a trans (either b16 or gsr) and then you can adjust your slick size to effectly change your gearing. If you are shifting into 5th on a 24.5" tire, the move on to a 26". You can also raise the rev limit if your motor allows it so you dont have to go too big on the slick size.
