car shakes when i let OFF the gas
this happens through almost all the gears except for first. I'll accelerate (hard or soft) and when let off the gas, my car starts to rock back and forth. this is a pain in the *** when i'm driving in traffic. there is nothing wrong with my motor mounts and everytime i ask a question like this i get tossed the "check the motor mounts" or "you're a dumb *** for driving around with broken motor mounts". can someone please tell me how to correct this? its not the idle either.
Tighten the nut that is attached to your throttle cable. The goal is to allow higher RPMs at a standstill. Your car is rocking because your exhaust isn't passing smoothly or with enough force. Tightening your throttle cable will allow more exhaust to flow thus stablizing your engine. It has nothing to do with motor mounts or anything like that. Just make sure you tighten the nuts back or it will walk back down to where it was. Your car must be on and in Neutral or Park whichever your case may be. You will need two 12mm wrenches one is to hold the first nut while you tighten the second. You will know if you are going the right way by the sound your engine makes. A higher pitch means you are going the right direction.
Let me know how it turns out.
*Bonus* This will also give you faste excelleration from a standstill.

Man, i have the same issue... is this true? I tightened my throttle cable during the summer when I felt too much slack in the gas pedal... I still have that problem and my idle RPM is 700ish RPM
9 times out of 10 its going to be your motor mounts especially with cars that have high mileage. If the motors mounts have never been replaced now is a good time to do so. Also get some polyurethane engine mount inserts, this will also void the shaking of the car at idle. Most honda's idle around 750rpm. If yours is lower than that you can adjust the throttle cable for a higher rpm as a temporary fix but it still wont solve the issue at hand. Best way to fix the problem instead of guessing is to get new engine mounts and work your way up from there. It cant hurt to try.....
