Default Car Turns off when i step on breaks

Im trying to get my friends hatch running again, he has a B16 in a EF9, Type R pistons, and type R manifold, whoever put that engine in is a ******* idiot though, they left a lot of hoses just sitting there, the knock sensor isnt plugged in, and the fuel rail was leaking gas, well today we fixed the fuel rail problem. and we got the car started, but when i tapped on the breaks it turned off, i noticed that the batter wasnt grounded to the frame of the car, could this be the problem??? or can it be a short somewhere? or maybe the battery is out of juice? because we did have to jump start it, and when it turned off the battery was done for it!....any advice?? thanks

is it only happening when you hit the brake? if it was the battery ...it wouldnt make a diff. if you hit the brake or not..when you turn on the car put all accesories on and see if it stays on...if it doesnt..prob battery...try cleaning out the ground too

the car will stay on, after we jump start it, and take off the cables, but after i tap the break, or turn on lights, it will just shut off and wont turn back on unless we jump start it....

check to see if the alternator is charging. It may be the battery is beyond a recharge.

kind of a weird idea, but ill throw it out there..

the brake switch to turn on your brake lights on the brake pedal might be broken. it could be grounding out the rest of the system. i believe the switch is plastic and has been known to break.. it might also explain why just turning on your lights kills it too, cause i think the power is routed through the same line. i guess it doesnt explain why your car is completly shutting off.. but its an idea.

yeah, i think that might be the problem, well not the shift linkage, but the ground on the battery cable.

The smartass answer would be take the car out of gear before you completely stop the car. But seriously it sounds like a grounding problem to me.

I think everyone who owns a car knows what cca's are..so lets seriously help him out and not bee ********.. Either way bro ..your gonna have to try and recharge that battery or buy a new one...if you have to jump it so frequently. Make sure you have a good clean ground....check your alternator with a Full Charged battery. hope this helps

Take your own advice about not bein an *******.....
and it appears he didn't know about CCA.
And it's very possible thats the problem. It is more then possible for a Battery to hold a charge and not have the proper CCA. I just threw out a battery 2 months ago. Held the proper 12 Volts, had me stumped, til I got a voltmeter that read CCA and found it was far below the required amount. New battery, problem gone.
If he's done the home test of removing the battery cables will it's running to see if the alternator is working, and if it is working, I'd be willing to bet its CCA, or ground, like I said</TD></TR></TABLE>

i know what cca is, i was just asking a simple question and wanted to know if anyone has had this problem before....thanks for the help guys.

This is exactly what happened when i tried to run my crx with NO battery for a minute, and twice when other cars of mine have had flat dead batterys. The brake lights seem to draw alot very suddenly, the alternator cant take it, so it kills the ignition.
Replace/Charge batt you should be fine
