just wondering how much a new tranmission would be for a 97 5 speed civic ex?? how much would it be to rebuild one too?? and which one would be better to do?? cause mines grinds on third like crazy at high rpm and just preparing for the future if i plan to swap it or rebuild it

I saw an ad for a race transmission company that sells stage 1 transmissions for about $750. I think it's pretty much stock gearing with carbon coated synchros or something like that.

You can pick up a used one from probably about $150 or so.

 

You can probably find a used one for pretty cheap, but then again, the cheaper it is the more miles are on it. Rebuilding it may or may not be more expensive, but you'd probably end up with a longer lasting transmission.

 

I suggest getting a used one from someone on H-T or you could go to motor yards and theyll have them for like 250. Saves you a couple 100 bucks.

 

i heard its better to get a low mileage tranmission than rebuilding your old one with new parts...why is this?? or is this not true??

I got mine from an engine importer. I got an s20 transmission that apparently had 20,000-30,000 miles on it for $300 with a 1 year warranty. Despite I've probably put about 500 miles on it in the last 1.5 years, I'm guessing it will hold up nicely.

 

mines does the same thing...even pops out...
