Well i'm looking for a new welding helmet. The most i want to spend is $180. It would be better to be around the $150 range though. I have been looking at this Hobart Auto Darkening Welding Helmet - Black 770413.

I saw it at my local Northern Tool supply for $190. I dont know what to look out for. Like is the **** on the outside to change the shade from 9-13, is that a good idea? It will be used for mig and tig if that matters.

This is for work I Stick weld outside(if it makes a dif) Only a few guys have the magic helmets I would rather get it just black and decorate it with stickers myself. Sorry to thread jack

I ordered one. I hope I like it. I will be leaving the begining of next month to build a scoreboard and that = a lot of welding.

How often would i need to change shades? The one i have right now is a 10 and sometimes i found it hard to see. I dont know if it was just dirty or not. I cleaned it and got a new plastic outer lense so i will see tonight if it was just dirty.
I'm looking to order a new helmet really soon. Would i really ever use the #9 shade? I'm mostly going to be doing exhaust, roll cages, body work, etc...

shade depends on what type of welding ur doing... use a higher shade # when using mig/tig
