Default Temperature gauge acting strange

I've got a '88 CRX and the temperature gauge (stock) is acting strange. It always seems hesitant to go up (it likes to stay near cold). Even when i'm sure the car is fully warmed up it won't go to the half-way point where it's suposed to be, it stays a little below the half-way point. And it takes a while even to get there (longer than i think it should). Another weird thing it does is that when i floor the car and i get up to 4000+ RPM (approx) the temperature gauge completely drops to the bottom, but when i shift up and the RPMs lower again the temperature gauge goes back up to a little below the half-way point where it usually is.

Anyway, sorry for the essay but it's really strange. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
