Type R Round 2? Looking for advice
An idea has popped into my head and I was wondering if you Type R drivers that are still around can help me out and offer me some advice. First let me give you some history on myself, so you can understand where I am coming from. Back in 2000 I bought a Integra type R and absolutely loved it. I loved fixing it up and I met a lot of great people (all off this website) because it of it. Of course, like most Type R owners, the car got stolen. Unable to deal with the stress of getting another Type R stolen again, I decided to buy a regular integra and use the extra money to fix it up (turbo, etc.) I ended up selling it and purchasing a 2004 gmc sierra as a tow vehicle (I race pro7 in SCCA/NASA). Well it turns out, we do not use my truck as a tow vehicle at all anymore because my father bought a van, which ultimately works out at the racetrack much better. Well this is why i'm posting....
Based on my situation, would it be wise for me to start thinking about buying another ITR? I've missed that car ever since it was stolen and have never been truly happy with my cars since.
Is there still a major theft problem? I would take more precaution in being sure it does not get stolen now. (I was naive before) Also, I live in a better neighborhood and have a gate to protect the car as well. (the previous R was stolen out of my driveway)
I'm going to call the insurance company and get the exact numbers, but i'm assuming insurance will cost more, but I will save money on gas. Plus hopefully i'll save a couple thousand from selling my truck. (but that is obviously not definate)
Anyways, if anyone can offer me some advice on what you think I should do, that would be awesome. I'm going to start thinking about it... I still have the photo from the first ITR Expo at Buttonwillow raceway that we (my dad, faisal, yoshi, kelly, and i) organized. I miss it...
Sorry for the long post.... thanks in advance.

Jun.R - I've been reading more and more and it does seem like the theft problem is still there.... I was kinda hoping that by now it wouldn't be as bad as it use to be, but maybe it still is?
I park the racecar in the garage, but there wouldn't be room for ITR. BUT it would be in a place where it would not get stolen when i'm at home. That is for sure.
I would only have to worry about when i'm at school/work/out. Not sure what to do.

If it's outside in CA, most likely it will get stolen. What kind of racecar do you have? Can you put it outside?

damn man, you're in a sticky situation for sure. does your house only have a 1 car garage?? i mean, i want to say get one but i can't if you'll HAVE to park it at school and work and various other places you can't see the car where you'll be.
i would say get one IF you could park it in the garage, and depending on how much you get for your Tahoe you could just get a beater EF civic or something and drive that to work and school, ect... no garage is no thanks

based on what you said, I say go for it. sounds like you miss the car, and have a pretty decent place to keep it. granted, they arent even safe in garages anymore (in fact, one stolen out of a garage just recently) but if you have a gate, and maybe can block it in I think youll be ok. thats what insurance is for anyway, just make sure its fully covered. if they want it they are gonna get it regardless. they are gonna have to take it from me because I wont get rid of it any other way. Im like a kid in a candy store everytime I drive it. and you can add to those memories by maybe making it out to another ITR Expo. I dont see much reason NOT to get another. my .02 and post pics of the race car!

hahaha. There is no way I will put the racecar outside for a lot of different reasons. I would not have to worry about theft at my house.... theives would have to pull an italian job for them to steal it from my house. I'd have to worry about school/work... so we'll see. I guess i'll look around and see if i find a good deal. We'll see.

I was still typing when he posted that
Its not gonna be safe no matter where you take it. But Id say chances are higher if its parked in the same place day after day in plain sight of thieves.
why not just get a beater and another R? get rid of that SUV and get two other cars instead

JUN.R - Absolutely.
My honest concern would not be theft from my house. And thats coming from someone who has had a Type R stolen from my previous home! Definately not a worry. My concern is other places...
New theft protection methods? Kill switches? Alarms? Big dogs? Anything?

all of the above... ok this is what i say, so you're 100% comfortable with leaving it parked in your driveway when you're NOT actually at home.
buy a beater EF Civic or something for like $1500-$2000 and drive that to school and work and wherever the hell else, and drive the R when you're going somewhere where you KNOW you can keep an eye on it at all times. that $1500-$2000 is a great invesment trust me...
i say go for the R, start shopping!!
in between all the **** you do all day drive by your house just as a precautionary thing

why not just put a kill switch that is well hidden. but if someone really wants to steal it i guess they could use a flat bed. but still that makes the chance of them getting caught in the act.

I just got a new Si, mostly because my 97 ITR was stolen from my appartment building about 3 months ago.
Wish I had the ITR back instead of this Si, some of the time.

Why buy a car that you have to worry about? It's not worth it IMO. That's the reason why I got rid of my R. You can't bring it to the movies, mall anywhere. If you aren't driving it, you better see it, and if you can't see it, it better be in a garage.
I hated the fact that people in different states knew about my car, and it's just not worth it. If you can afford a R and afford a car to goto work/school then go for it, if not, I say start looking for another car.

The drive up to track was probably the most fun of that entire weekend! Too bad we were going so fast it only lasted for about an hour... haha! I remember you passing us at about 135 mph..... then we passed you back at 150mph. That was insane! And highly illegal.

HTechers -
Another idea just popped into my head.... What would your impressions be of this exact same situation but instead of an ITR I went with a S2000?
It seems as if the major theft problem wouldn't be as bad..... I like ITR's better, but i'm sure an S2000 would get my jollies off just the same. I'm going to start looking into that as well.
