good luck, MOST people won't do it at a reputable shop. You'll find that it's just too much of a liability UNLESS you have one that is made by the manufacturer for a manual transmission. There shouldn't be too many of those left these days. If you want info on how to do it yourself, hit me up. I do not recommend that you do it UNLESS you are INCREDIBLY responsible. I've seen too many of my friends cars get f'd because they left it in gear

If you have not gotten the remote start yet, you may want to have a look at Compustar, http://www.compustar.com/products.htm IMO the best alarm, alarm/starter, or just starter on the market today, and yes they do make them for manual transmissions, making it virtually impossible to start your car in gear, and very good range on their 2ways.

I've got the compustar.. what I did was used a relay to close the clutch switch just for auto-starting. That way you still have to put the clutch in to start the car with a key - you are safe starting you car either way.
On the compustar there is an output that goes to ground like 4ms before the auto-start triggers... just wire that up to the ground on the relay.
Anyway... I don't know if DEI makes a manual version, but I know my compstar works like a charm. You can find dealers for them off the website.. and any competent installer should be able to figure out how a relay works.

And no, to this point DEI does not make a remote start for manual transmissions

Ah thats good to know. When I installed mine like 2 years ago I only had a basic understanding of alarms and was in a rush. I'll be sure to do it the way you described when I put the alarm in my new car.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by LoveOfMoney »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i have a quick question. im gonna purchase a viper 791 xv alarm tomorrow and wondering if the auto start will work for my car.</TD></TR></TABLE> Short answer...... yes, long..... you can pretty much get any remote start to work on any car, on some cars you may need more relays if there are more "high current" outputs needed, then the remote start has and/or oem immobilizer "Bypass Modules" if car so equipped. With that said, the one thing that should be taken into account, is the remote start compatible with a standard transmission, if not, get one that is.
Even though installing a remote start, that is for automatic transmission only, can just as easily be installed into a standard, there is only 2 extra wires to connect, it will not have any of the "failsafes" in it, so one day you will start your car in gear, unless you install your own "failsafes". lot easier getting one made for a standard transmission.
Now you, at this time DEI, including the [Viper 791xv], does not make a remote start for a standard transmission, so the question I would ask you is, do you own a car with a standard transmission if so, are you willing to take the chance that on that day you start, [and you will] your car in gear nobody is between it and a hard place?

hmm... for my car i just took the two wires going to the clutch and connected them together. basically the computer thinks the clutch is disengaged. Then whenever i park, i roll into it in neutral and always check before i get out. Had for like 3 or 4 months, no mistakes yet.

...ye of little faith </TD></TR></TABLE> Well no mistakes yet, for you, but what about somebody else? We had a customer some months ago, that came in and wanted us to disconnect a remote start in his sons car, turns out that pop had moved sons car to get his into the garage, parked sons car behind moms car, son got up in the morning hit remote start, sons car smacked moms car on all 3 remote start attempts, they didn't realise what the crashing they were hearing was until the last one, when the son was looking out the window to see what it was, the good thing was, not a lot of damage, the sad thing was, It was a Compustar and had not been wired or "programed" for a standard
So it's not you that will leave it in gear, it will be someone you know, maybe just knocking it into gear because they are in the car for something else.

first of all, the viper 791vx or whatever is the only one we carry (best buy) and second of all, how else am i supposed to wire it?
Please let me know so maybe i can fix it since my car is in the middle of being gutted so i can lay dynamat everywhere.
Also i did the install myself and no i am not an installer for best buy, i just have basic knowledge about electronics and have some will in doing things myself instead of having someone else do it. But if someone has to do it for warranty reasons, such as the speakers i am going to buy need to be professionally installed for the warranty to be valid, then i'll pay.
Please teach me o wise fcm

Alright grasshopper, connect the "791vx or whatever"s ground out when running wire, [blue (-) status output] on 4 pin plug for "Relay Satellite" to the starter relay side of "Clutch Interlock Switch" probably blue/black, that way the clutch interlock will work normally but still start the car by remote.

Ok, i tried thinkin about this for awhile and couldnt understand what this does. Does it make it possible so that the car cant be remote started if its left in gear? Thats the only thing that makes sence to me, im still not sure, fcm or anyone who understands this let me know.
