VTEC power wavers in & out.. problem.
Hi guys,
I'm running a 1989 CRX hf with a B16A swap. the computer is a PR3 and is for a manual transmission (car is also manual). I'm still kind of lost when it comes to certain tech topics, but I'll try to stick with you guys.
I actually have 2 problems, which may be related.
1. When I am in any gear above 1st and I'm flooring it, VTEC feels like it wavers, and my power will fluxuate, usually between 5.5k-7k rpm, instead of pulling hard all the way through. This does not occur every time I drive the car, but usually.
2. My car will also rev limit early. it does not happen EVERY time I drive the car either, but most of the time. instead of limiting at 8+ I will usually rev limit between 6.8k and 7.5k rpm. I'm calling it rev limitting because all accelleration of the car stops, even though the gas pedal is fully depressed.
We checked the VTEC solenoid and cleaned it, gave the car an oil change, and this is where we're at. any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

yea, i had the same problem with my 2001 civic... seems that there is not enough oil pressure for the vtec to engage... usually thats the case
I actually had the same problem for awhile. I ended up getting the zdyne SECU and I never had that problem again. I never did find out what was causing it. But I tell you we changed out almost everything to get it to stop. And I am pretty sure we checked out what the oil pressure was at the switch and it was good also. Dont think I helped out at all, but let us know if you ever figure it out.
and ya..it was damn annoying.
