Default VIN location on USDM H22a4?

I am trying to buy a motor and I want to make sure it's legit.

The motor is a H22a4 meaning that it's usdm.

The head is stamped 96, meaning that it was in a 97 car I think?

The seller couldn't find the VIN plate. Is it in the same place as b-series motors? on the bottom of the front of the block?

lol, the Slave cylinder is part of the hydrolic clutch system, bolted in the front of the block with 2 10mm bolts. Follow the clutch hard line on the transmission. The slave is right by the front engine mount.

as far as i know, only the tranny gets stamped with a vin tag, the block gets a serial number under the engine code iirc

i have a 2000 H22A4 and it has a VIN plate like a car rivited onto the back of the block just below the oil filter. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

yeah, I'd really appreciate that.

ANother question. What can I look for on a block to tell if it's a SH of Base? Will carfax tell me if I pull the VIN? Is there any visual cues to look for?

Sh and base have different oil filter locations, base is normal hondy above oil pressure sending unit and SH is more to the drivers side. Also the Sh block has threads for the 4 bolts that bolts the atts box to the back of the block
