Default Wheel balancing weights

Would you be pissed if they stuck weights on the inside of your rim with double-sided tape? I know its not exactly uncommon , but they-ve been on for 12 hours now and already some are starting to peel up.
I think its crap.

Sticky weights? That's how I've done most aftermarket rims. Now the stock rims I had the weights on the insides of the rims, but when I had my GS-R on 17's they were the same kind of weights your talking about.

Yeah forgot to mention, stock rims
I was just surprised to see it done that way, and I wouldn't be upset if a couple werent trying to fall off.

i always do mine myself and i used the sticky weights but sometimes they have trouble if you dont clean your wheel good enough

now i just go the full proof route and use hammer on weights on the inside lip so you cant see them

Good point...the wheels are not clean.
It doesnt look like they cleaned the areas where the weights went down either.
Probably why they aren't sticking...arghhhh.

I love the Mr. Gasket ones off of SummitRacing (or wherever). Ran into trouble once when the steel was "sweating" during a humid day.

Do you put them closer to the spokes, or farther away?

I also prefer the sticky weights because (a) they aren't as visible, and (b) driving fast (like on the track) applies force that helps keep them on, rather than pulling them off.

Some places charge more for the sticky weights but I prefer them. I don't consider them a BAD thing...

At the place I always get my tires mounted and balanced, I'm pretty sure there is a method to their weight placement based on what the machine says, and they're not always along the same circumfrence.

I ask for the weights stuck on the inside of the rim...

why would I want some dude going at my rim with a hammer, attaching something to the painted surface?

Also, with sticky weights you can dynamically balance (inside + outside) the wheel without having to hammer weights on the outside of the rim.

Typically a wheel with only weights on the inside won't balance properly.

Heh.
Let me clarify...I wasnt exactly mad about the type of weights so much as the fact they were coming off. Although if you read what I wrote it doesnt come off that way.
But hey, I was upset over some other things at the time also.
And my question about placement was a totally different train of thought.
I was curious if they did some sort of "3-d" balancing where they would not necessarily all be along the same line, (cause it appears they are not), and I see that ericlee303 answered this question.
I'm just going to clean the areas that are coming up and see if I can get them to re-stick, if not maybe I'll buy some of my own and stick them down appropriately.

When properly applied, they should be pretty secure. I just had one fall off, the only one I know about after using them for the past, oh, ten years or so, on multiple vehicles, year round, on the racetrack as well as the street.

You can buy them in any decent auto parts store.

When I pit for my friend who races bikes, when we balance the wheel put the stick weights down and then a piece of duct tape. Obviously make sure the area that will be covered with tape is clean!!
