Theft is theft. Yes, it's bad for ITR's. They get stolen all the time. If you choose to worry about it then you'll worry. If you choose to accept that it's just a car and they get stolen all the time then you'll be fine. Not to be a dick, but that is the bottom line('cause Stone Cold says so )

I love/adore my ITR and I used to worry all the time until I took the steps necessary to combat theft as best I could. There are TONNES of threads on theft prevention.

Oh snap, you live in NY too. expletive that! If you want it, do it, just understand the conditions that you will encounter by owning one, even in Mahopac.

If you get an ITR = getting a curse ... if you are not ready to take the heat, just don't come into the kitchen

It really all depends. Most R owners on here worry about theft. I don't. I love the car but it is just a car. It mostly depends on where you live though. I live in a reasonably small town, keep it outside, drive and park it everywhere I go. Its my only car and I have never worried about it. I have a basic alarm and full coverage insurance. 3 1/2yrs and no problems to date. Alot of R owners here dont have as of luck.

I had my ITR in lower Westchester for 2.5 yrs with no issues. Just sold it in December. The only reason it wasn't stolen was because of the location of the location I parked the car in. If you leave the car in the driveway in plain sight it will be stolen. I'm not being a jerk, just lookin' out for you.

I left a 97 GLX VR6 Jetta for my ITR and I loved every minute in both. If you do buy an R there are quite a few of us around that have or have had R's.

Good luck either way.

i don't lose sleep over it, but i am very skeptical about people asking about the car or personal information. i used to daily drive the car to school or wherever i did throughout the day, but that was when i could afford insurance. never once did i hesitate to believe that my R could be stolen at any time however. the only reason i drove my car the way i would any other car is because of comprehensive insurance. other than that, security doesn't mean jack sh*t because there are ways around everything!

<------- doesn't arm alarm or use autoloc. only detachable steering wheel and kill switch now.

dont do it? like the others said you have to be aware of what you are getting yourself into...

some to most cases of theft occur when the R was left on the driveway. remember even if you disable ECU and what-not thieves will find some way. flatbed.....etc.

quick story too...

woke up one morning at about 8am looked outside, big car carrier truck parked outside opposite my driveway on other side of street. neighbour has three accords only one is usually garaged. by the time im eating breakfast, parents keep looking out window. why? in that short time since i saw it, the guy got it up on the truck already keep in mind it was only him outside on the street, the owners were never notified. he could leave anytime he wanted to with one of the accords. even my next door neighbours noticed what was going on. after a bit of serious panic, we confirmed the owner knew what was going on. what a relief

Damn, thats terrible i think i wouldnt worry too much tho, cuz owning a type r is kinda and some may disagree is like owning a corrado, its rare exspensive at times and is in demand, now i never really drove my rado cuz i didnt have my license, but every so often there are stories of guys getting their rados stolen not as often as type R's but it does happen

Radio's don't get stolen out of ITR's. ITR's get stolen out of driveways.

almost 2 years ago I was cruising in a Corrado G60 unless you park somewhere everyday (@ work or home) where it is prone to theft i wouldn't be too worried, have a good alarm and do a couple other things and it should be fine.
just have to:

i dont worry about my rhd itr at all. Like very others have said its just a car, I'll live if it gets stolen and I will just get something better. Most ppl freak out about my car but I havent even had a hint of any one tampering with my car one bit. I live in a fairly good place I guess and luckily I live on a military base. But I do drive my car everywhere and dont worry about it being there when I walk back out. I recently left my car at the airport for 3 days and didnt worry one bit about it. Remember its just a car, not your life..

The important question here is what color R are you looking for?

Look up "Surrey" on the North American scale for auto theft. You'll be surprised. Theft is a huge problem up here too. http://www.baitcar.com/
