iron cast welding tranny??

Default iron cast welding tranny??

the other day ran into an island and you guys know how that feels.. well the trany is now crack right below towards the 2 solenoids AUTO TRANNY... crack is about 2 in long.. the only place that oil leaks from.. all internals seems to be okay.. is it possible to weld these tranny with iron cast / mig / tigs ???any sugestions? i am in desperate needs..

They are aluminum and yes it can be welded with a Tig but the area will need to be cleaned really really really well.

was thinking about keeping everything inside with out taking it apart. out side where the crack is located is just sorrounded by moist oil and lube.. nothing too serious.. is that possible.. with TIG???

TIG'ing dirty cast aluminum is one of my least favorite things to do. The only remote chance of pulling it off is cleaning the crap out of it and grinding down into the crack to reach fresh aluminum. Even then oil will probably weap out and make welding a pain in the ***. Its possible but it wont be easy.

1) Get some "QuickSteel" epoxy and fill the hole.

2) After about 1 hour of setup, grind it smooth with the exterior of the case.

3) Weld a piece of plate aluminum over the filler to stop the two side from seperating more.

It won't be pretty, but it will be stonger than before

thanks for the info guys i got a local guy here charging me a 180 for the job.. hes actually going to grid down the surface and tig the crack.. gave me full garantee that every thing will hold.. im might be going to this guys to get the job done.. which weld would be reliable for this kind of work.. tig / mig / iron cast??
