Default center console

Does anybody know how to take apart the center console for a 99 EX 5-speed. i need to install my short shift adapter. If anybody has detailed instructions or pictures that would be great. Thanx

no picture, so you just have to take my word for it.

pull out the cup holder section by pull it striaght up, there' no screw just some metal clips.

the rest of the shifter console is the same, pull up the ebrake, and pull the whole section out, again, there's only metal clips holding it down.

just in case you loose some of those metal clip, honda sells them for 25 cents each.

once you get it open, you can loose the boot hold down from the inside

Look at Step 22, shows you where the clips are.

What does a short shift adapter do? Is it just a short shift ****? If so, please post a picture when you're done, I'm curious to see how it looks. I have a '99 LX 5-speed.

The short shift adapter reduces the throw by about 30%. I bought a Fidanza short shift adapter from Sport Compact Only. I had to modify the hole a little to make it bigger so the bolt would fit through and I had to get a 5/16 nut to secure the other bolt that was attached to the adapter. All in all it took me about 20 minutes and I can definitly tell the difference. I would recommend this to all drivers that have manuals. Great product for pretty cheap($30).

I had mine sawed down too but the adapter makes it even shorter. I took it for an extensive, hard drive tonight and it did great. Even though cutting the stick makes the throw shorter, the adapter makes the likage to the lever shorter. I just did both.

a shorten shifter will not shorten your throw

That one looks good. I just wish I had found it before i had the lever cut down. That one will be more expensive than cutting it but then you can keep your stock lever if you ever want to replace it.
