Default Exhaust question

i got a question to ask you guys....if i took my car to a muffler shop and got them to do my piping and slapped on a magnaflow muffler, would that sound much different from the magnaflow complete cat-back systems?

i have a 02 accord coupe inline-4 but i'm trying to get dual exhaust. i'm not going for performance whatsoever so i don't mind about the back pressure. for awhile i was thinking that the i-4 and the v6 had the same under chasis and that the v6 system would just bolt up, but i'm not to sure of that.

hmm.. well i would say eff it and just slap those mufflers on there, your exhaust (oem) is fairly new so you shouldnt worry about dropping a complete exhaust in. just throw the magnaflow mufflers, and no it wont make a diff on the sound. now if u were to replace you cat. (no recomended.) your car will hit a higher pitch when the tach reads around 35 or 4k but for now just throw the muffler on there.

i know i've seen it in a thread around here. OEM mufflers are made to reduce noise by a maze of pipes(?) in the muffler. So, it will obviously sound better. And larger pipes mean more air and another thing that contributes to that is the size of the tips on the muffler.

Since you have an 4cyl(like i do) and want dual (like i have) then you would have to do a catback anyways because they have to make a y pipe to split off to dual. If you wanted to do single, obviously it would work. More than likely the muffler shop (if custom exhaust is in their job description) can do a catback for around 500 bucks and I haven't noticed a decreased low end torque like a few people around here said I might. (in fact I beat a 94 bmw 7 series off the line through first)

The closest you're going to get to a dual system will be a simulated one; since there's insufficient room under the chassis for dual converters, dual resonators and all that piping..
The easiest way would probably work out this way:
Muffler Shop:
Intermediate pipe (Converter to over axle): 2 1/4" piping with resonator (duplicates original routing)
Over axle Pipes: Dual 2.0" pipes to individual mufflers.

Or you can take both the intermediate and rear y pipe from a V6 Accord and graft it to the 4 cylinder intermediate pipe and hang the mufflers of your choise on the back.

You would have to Futz over mounts no matter which way you went.

i have 2.25" piping all the way back, including the y pipe.

I got them from a flowmaster retailer but after looking online they are Ractive mufflers. IMHO don't get dual unless you get small tips (I didn't bother to check which one's I was getting and ended up getting 4" tips, bad choice)

I've got a sound bite, but I was done cleaning my car and I had to have my mom rev the engine for me (lol) but if you'd like it I can send it to you. Sort of sounds like an airplane with silencers, shakes the car without them in.
