Default Oil Pan Interchangeability

What oil pans are interchangeable?? Meaning will the H23 oil pan work on the H22? Is there a difference between gens for the H22 when buying an oil pan, example will the 92-96 oil pan work on the 97 up H22's?? Can the F22 oil pan work on the H22?? Just wondering out of curiousity, thanks for any input.

I dont think your gonna want to do any interchanging. I do know the 92-96 H22 pan uses a gasket and the 97+ H22 doesnt. :X

I think this is actually a good question. I changed the oil pan on my 97 and I was looking at the oil pan trying to figure this out myself. If the only difference between the BB1 H22 and BB6 H22 oil pans are the use of a gasket or not then they should theoretically work. You still use a sealer for the BB6 you are just making your own gasket.

Why would you want to use an oil pan not made for your motor tho?

they will interchange

the 97 and up one is aluminum, vs the crappy metal 4th gen one.....

the 97 and up requires a little rtv application, the 92-96 uses a gasket, and some in the corners....

all f22/h23/h22 are the same pan, the 97-01 pan is alluminum, and I have only got them to work with the pickup/windage tray from a 97-01 on the 92-96 motors.

this is possibly true. I know for a fact that you simply cannot slap a steel pan onto an obd2 block. I tried it just a couple of weeks ago. I still have the pan(now for sale). The steel pan will not seal up. it hits the pick up and you cant make it seal flush on the block. Also the aluminum pan has threaded holes in the bottom for a little bracket/flywheel coveer. this bracket also helps mate the tranny and the block together. you cant use it with the steel pan(obviously)

All you said was one requires rtv and the other uses a gasket..

Alot of good responses but boy does it vary from person to person as to what can interchange.

What are you trying to get out of swapping oil pans? Do you only have access to cheap used F22 pan or something?

If you want an oil pan .. get an aftermarket unit .. otherwise why not stay with the OEM one?

actually the aluminum pan has theses walls built into it my guess is to prevent oil starvation during cornering
