Default To the guys using aluminum exhaust....what are you using for a muffler?

Haven't had any luck finding aluminum mufflers for my upcoming 4" dp and exhaust project. What are you guys doing if not using an aluminum muffler?

just run the piping back to where the muffler would be. then use a regular muffler with an exhaust band clamp to hold it to the pipe. then weld steel hangers onto the muffler itself

You could use a v-band on the muffler. 4" V-bands are available in both stainless and alum. and you can clamp the different ones together.

Thats the only idea I could come up with. Guess thats how its gotta be done until an aluminum unit becomes available.

You could just use a slip on muffler, fabricate an aluminum tab for one side, use a pre made stainless one for the other and then attach it via springs, or bolts.

It's really easy to copy the Flowmaster type mufflers.

That's what I was thinking. I wonder how much different a Flowmaster would sound if made out of aluminum?

I can't find the old thread, but I think it was Geoff at Full Race that was running 4" aluminum exhaust on his car.

um, don't you want to keep the heat in the exhaust gas to keep velocity up? total threadjack but I was just wondering

I sell them. Any size, and a new addition is 180* 3" u-bends. Currently 4" only comes in 90's, 45's or straights.

I thought of this after posting this thread. I would like to use the Burns lightweight muffler but they are a bit expensive. We use the Vibrant race mufflers and although they are slightly heavier, they come with a lower price tag.

What are your pistons made of?

Velocity? Sure its important before the turbine housing and yes, 4" piping will slow the velocity, but its exhaust...more important to move volume.

Maybe we should make the exhausts out of a high silicon alloy, then. No, I'm not being a smartass, I'm serious. If aluminum-silicon hypoeutectic alloys can handle the heat of combustion, surely they can handle the heat of the exhaust? At least, after the downpipe?
